Current state of the squad

We need a spoiler rough and ready type battler in the midfield, Archie Gemmill type, nearest we’ve got is Yates and he won’t feature much this season I don’t think.

The £150m or whatever it was that we spent on 5 players (McAtee, Bakwa, NDoye, Kali, Hutch) who have all failed to nail down a place and contribute much of anything is really hurting us. Thanks Edu.
And then we choose a manager who wouldn't select them anyway.

I'm rethinking my season prediction.

Updated with Delap's signing and added a five-year contract box!

I hate to say it but the squad looks a mess

We are lacking a quality back up keeper

We will look pretty light at the back if we let all of Morato, Bindon and Abbott go.

We will be well stocked at wing back if Munoz comes in but with only one natural left sided player at the club.

We havent replaced Anderson

It's also not clear if CHO, Kalimunedo, Hutchinson or Ndoye will really suit the system.

Other than that, we're good to go

That squad looks fine to me. Cover at every position, reasonable quality throughout, still room to add someone else if we see a bargain as the window closes. I'd be looking at Sarr from Spurs - they've got a load of players to get rid off to get under 25.

I've been banging the 'left-footed LWB' drum for a while now but it seems that won't happen so I suppose we'll have to get used to playing like it's table football with two legs shorter than the others.

I'm happy with the central defensive options and consider it to be the strongest area of the team. If Morato goes then we need one more but I'm not bothered either way as I don't particularly rate him.

Want a keeper to at least push Sels or even take his slot which still looks like it's something the club is looking to do. I don't trust John Victor and Benda is just a placeholder.

Central midfield is still a concern for me with it being such a key position. I don't buy the idea that the change in formation can make up for a lack of quality in there. It's the Premier League and it's where most matches are won or lost and I feel we've got quantity not quality in there from what I've seen.

Up front is fine and I'd expect Delap to establish himself as the starter with Wood and Jesus back up. Jesus can drop back too.

It's difficult to see where the likes of Savona and Kalimuendo fit in. The latter actually played well against Leeds last week in the cup so for him to not even be in the squad on Saturday suggests he's on his way.

Ndoye scored his annual August goal but he's got a long way to go before I'm convinced he's the answer. I don't see him going now though. Replacing him at this late stage would be tricky too so that's perhaps one to revisit in January unless he sorts himself out.
