Current state of the squad

Yes that’s right, so it’s 25 plus Abbott and Cunha in reality
I guess who goes depends on how ready Cuhna and Abbot are and how much pitch time Boly expects to get in the league.

I suspect it's Cubioano to Oly and done, with Boly playing in the tournaments.

I kind of suspect it's either Morato stays and Boly doesn't make the cut, or Morato leaves and Boly is in.
Might be wrong though.

Could be, also wonder if Cunha goes out with Cubioano for first team experience, though that has no impact on squad size. Would be a development thing for he and Abbot though.

I've just seen this on facey b.

It does highlight the issue of who is going to be shipped out or culled from the squad.View attachment 52352

Well, either way, it's going to be fun watching how it plays out.
Someone is gonna be disappointed for sure - but competition should make everyone better.

Yeah they seem the most likely candidates. Especially if Savona can cover Centre Back as well as Full Back (with some reports suggesting his long term future is probably at CB).

Would also throw Dominguez in as a wild card, depending on when he's expected back. No point registering someone who won't be available until Christmas.

Taiwo and Jota won’t make the 25
Cuibano could well end up at Oly I reckon as he is potentially 5th choice full back.
I wouldn’t rule our Morato leaving either
Abbott, Cunha are under 21 so are in addition to the 25.
Take with a big pinch of salt but I've read that Aina has been carrying an injury and is going to have surgery on it (now that he has signed a new contract) - which would probably rule him out until the next registration for the Prem and Europa League knockouts in Jan/Feb (again, only if it's true).

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case for Dom too, given that he needs time to become fully fit again.

Potentially very exciting. Am I the only one concerned that we didn’t go and get the out-and-out number 6 that our starting 11 needed?
I thought it was a key area to address BUT we brought in so much that I am content we don't need an out and out six. Sangare looked like that in matchday one but since he's been much more ordinary. Zinchenko could potentially play as a six too. Let's see how things pan out.

We def have him in Europe. There is no way around that. Yates, Bott and someone else too.
It's been covered to death, but we don't need to fill those 4 slots. We can (and clubs often do) leave some of them empty with no consequences other than not getting to use the slot.

Abbott, Bott, and all of the other (dozens of) U21s who've been at the club long enough are available via List B regardless, so wouldn't get named on List A just to fill a quota that doesn't need filling.

True BUT if we run into injury problems we don't want a 6 man bench or something January. May as well put a kid on the list and if push comes to shove he can enjoy the experience of watching from the bench in Braga.

That's not really how it works.

We wouldn't have a 6 man bench - we can name as many eligible* players to List B as we want, and we can name List B players in a matchday squad. Trying to place those players into the club trained spots on List A makes no sense and provides no benefit of any description. We can fill out a bench with kids regardless.

So I've been trying to process all the new signings, which is overwhelming, and kinda figure out where we are and obviously the squad is excellent. I suspect this season will be the opposite of last season where we were strong and then faded away. I think we'll start slow but finish strong.

My only concern, and this might be worrying about nothing, is Aina and CHO. They have previously played for clubs with strong squads in which they had to fight for their place and they have underachieved.

One of the reasons they've done so well here is that they've received a lot of love, a lot of reassurance, a lot of nurturing at a club where expectations were, at the time, low. Minimal pressure, minimal competition.

This is not the case anymore and I hope they can handle it. Hopefully they've matured and will rise to the challenge. But it's just in the back of my head.

That being said, the squad is remarkable. There is no good reason why we can't match last season in the league and go deep in all cup competitions.

I don't think Morato is going anywhere. People have taken against him, but he's decent. Last year for months bringing him on meant the game was closed and over - zero goals conceded. He built up some credit then.
Every team at this level needs players who can step in and close a game out. Forest lacked that, and then signed Morato, and then, he came off the bench as the side sometimes shut up shop. Nothing wrong with that, come and break us down if you think you're good enough, as it were.

There is definitely a place for a no-nonsense defender like him in the squad, and I am pretty sure this will be the case in Europe, too.

It's weird.

People been throwing him in the bomb squad & trying to sell him all summer, the club doesn't seem as keen for plainly obvious reasons.
That Leicester game.. Plus that he seemed to be a bit more suspect when he was starting as opposed to when he came on.

For his efforts in trying to shore up matches and close out wins/draws late on though, he has plenty of credit in the bank with good vs bad performances

Morato had a bad couple of months towards the end of the season, but he was an excellent defensive sub up until March. There will be times he comes on and helps us shut up shop effectively again I'm sure.

Still has a role to play here, assuming he wants to stay.

By the same token though, you've got people who've absolutely convinced themselves we're going to ship out Cuiabano to Olympiacos, despite the ink only being dry on the signing for about 20 minutes and there being no rumours from the Olympiacos side that anything like that is in the works.
