CONTRACTED PLAYERS OVER 21 - SQUAD of 25

  • Ola Aina
  • Taiwo Awoniyi
  • Willy Boly
  • Danilo
  • Nicolas Domínguez
  • Felipe
  • Morgan Gibbs-White
  • Wayne Hennessey
  • Callum Hudson-Odoi
  • Ateef Konaté
  • Cheikhou Kouyaté
  • Richie Laryea
  • b
  • Moussa Niakhaté
  • Divock Origi
  • Ibrahim Sangaré
  • Matz Sels
  • George Shelvey
  • Nuno Tavares
  • Harry Toffolo
  • Matt Turner
  • Odysseas Vlachodimos
  • Neco Williams
  • Chris Wood
  • Ryan Yates

CONTRACTED PLAYERS UNDER 21 - EXTRACT ONLY

  • Brandon Aguilera*
  • Murillo
  • Anthony Elanga
  • Andrew Omobamidele
  • Gio Reyna
  • Rodrigo Ribeiro

So based on the above, the 25 man squad for the second half of the season has 15 players maximum I would keep. Plus Murillo, Elanga and Omo stepping up from the u21 category gets you to 18. Give of take one or two either way.

So not exactly specific, but broadly 7 new players, plus more to offset a major sale of one who you would logically keep. And a couple more u21s back into the feedstock.

montiel, origi and tavares only on loan and going back to their parent clubs as will reyna and ribeiro. felipe ,hennessey and kouyate out of contract , Richie Laryea has been sold for a small profit and george shelvey was released to dundalk which he is currently serving a 10 game suspension. boly and wood ?? as no news yet on their contracts.

I believe Aina and Wood both have another year.

i thought we offered a new contract to Boly?

Yep I was just showing who we registered with the PL as our 25 man squad + u21s.

You can quickly see we have plenty of business to do though.

I keep seeing people say we need to bring defenders in but a genuine question - who would you replace in the starting 11 in defence? To me, all of them are very capable, it's the silly mistakes we need to cut out.

Bring players in of an equal or better standard and make them compete for the starting role.

Firstly it's likely that we'll lose Murillo. Who knows whether Worrall has a future here and Felipe (and maybe Boly) is leaving on a free.

Secondly I have a feeling Nuno will switch to 3 at the back next season. Omobamidele looks like a good prospect but lacks experience, Niakhate is an odd one as he can look brilliant one game then a liability the next.

Yes agree on Niakhate. Also find it really interesting that he no longer takes throw ins, instead it's Aina which are perfectly fine tbh.
There's two possibilities regarding Niakhate's missing chaos throws
  • He hasn't taken any since his elbow injury - so either his elbow isn't fully healed, is at risk of re-injury if he launches one in, or has healed in a way that he can't generate the same distance any more, or
  • Him moving out of position from the center to the flanks is seen as a positional risk if the other team breaks from the throw in (or just a bigger risk than the potential reward at least) whereas Aina would be out wide anyway.

Or Aina's throws are just better, which I think they are.

Niakhate's were made really effective by Felipe winning the near post flick, once he got that flick on it was so difficult for teams to clear it just created a mad scramble every time. If you don't get that flick they are rubbish and nobody could win them like Felipe.

Aina's get into a more dangerous area but are easier to clear because the ball has a lot of pace on it.
