They played football in a positive, attractive manner over the two legs and deserved to make it to the final. We're obviously all very downbeat now, but Blackpool deserve considerable praise for their style and spirit. They made us look very ordinary in my opinion and used the underdog spirit without ever playing like underdogs. It irks me that the majority of their goals have been scored by players that do not belong to them, but that's just tough.

There were a few things we lacked on the night, but we have the whole summer to put them right.

A left back for one.

Sombody will shortly (I hope) produce the stats that bear this out - how infrequently the team finishing 3rd lands up promoted via the playoffs.

Grrr.

It's not been too bad in that respect in recent years; in the last 5 years 3 times the team finishing third has been promoted.

I'd also like to congratulate Blackpool on reaching the final. As a Forest fan, it's always encouraging to see other clubs playing flowing, attractive football the real 'Forest way' and they put us to shame tonight.

The reason why I am congratulating Blackpool and not looking forward to a season in the Premiership is incredibly simple in my eyes. Had the powers that be at Forest gone out of their way to convince Nicky Shorey that, not only were they were desperate to sign him until the end of the season but also that he was the most crucial part of our promotion campaign with the promise of a generous deal when (it was not 'if' with Nicky Shorey in the team) the club secured automatic promotion, then we would never have suffered at the hands of this torturous lottery once again. Mark Arthur and Co. were not prepared to finance his wages until the end of the season (ludicrous business sense when a potential £100 million windfall is taken into account) and have therefore consigned us to yet another year in the wilderness.

I'm not one to usually blame any individual player, but I seriously think we need a LB because over the course of these two legs Perch has been woeful. Granted he made some good challenges at times, but a number of their goals came from Perch's side or from his mistakes... and not only that but everytime he got the ball when we attacked we lost a lot of momentum. I don't think it's particularly his fault because he is fitting into a space that we have which doesn't suit his game.

I like Perch and do rate him, but I do wish we had a proper LB to play because first of all the penalty in the first leg completely turned the tie on its head, and today he made some stupid decisions like trying to take players on or getting drawn into the center allowing loads of room on the wing.

have to say that even though I am disapointed at losing to Blackpool of all clubs (they don't deserve to be in premier league coz for starters their ground n pitch is woeful and nowhere near premier league standard n second too many of their players are pretty old and would never be able to last a whole season in premier league and so will just come straight back down while passing 'GO' and collecting £48m) even so, I think so long as we can keep hold of Billy and give him some funds for the summer we could even win the league next season :D

2009: 3rd = Sheff Utd, Promoted = Burnley
2008: 3rd = Hull, Promoted = Hull
2007: 3rd = Derby, Promoted = Derby
2006: 3rd = Watford, Promoted = Watford
2005: 3rd = Ipswich, Promoted = West Ham
2004: 3rd = Sunderland, Promoted = Palace
2003: 3rd = Sheff U, Promoted = Wolves
2002: 3rd = Wolves, Promoted = Birmingham
2001: 3rd = Bolton, Promoted = Bolton
2000: 3rd = Ipswich, Promoted = Ipswich

So previous 10 season, 3rd place has been promoted 5 times, including 3 of the previous 4 seasons.

As bad as we were, in the main, blackpool were superb and they will get my backing when they play at Wembley. Although my predicting has been poor, I still think Cardiff will go up and that is not a bad thing. They would be big rivals next seson and to take them out of the equation can only be good for us. Sadly i could not work my thread starting magic but next season we will be well placed to to have a good crack at a top2 finish. Keep the faith guys. U ****in red uns!

I genuinely thought this was suggesting that we were the best team in the first half, Blackpool were superior after half-time but we're better with the ball.

I like how all the match reports mention the slight nick by the Blackpool defender for the first goal, poor defending for our second goal, but make no mention of Camps poor kick and us being out of position for their first and the second being a complete fluke.

Credit to Blackpool, they were ruthless with their chances, but really, other than a lot of excellent passing in the middle, in both games, they've barely got in our box or threatened our goal before we've gifted them goals with sloppy defending where as in both games we've got right into the box and created great chances.

We could have gone in 2-0 up at half time, we could have gone 3-1 up right before it become 2-2. I just think there's a lot of exaggeration going on because they were supposed underdogs (were they really underdogs? they were the form team).

We just have shit luck when it comes to these things. Why can't we get a bloody deflection when we need one!

Still hope they beat Cardiff/Leicester though.

They were excellent, even if they were a bit harmless before we started gifting them goals. They constantly out maneuvered our midfield, even when we were on top.

First time i saw Blackpool last night and actually thought they look very impressive.

I really hope they make the Premiership now, they haven't cheated financially unlike Cardiff and Fester.

They also have a premiership class manager in charge.

Completely agree with Steppan - Perch's vulnerability in that position was exposed by Campball and Blackpool. After the last goal went in Perch was completely out of it.

It really pains me to say it but I think our need for a decent defender was underlined by Blackpool's loanee Seamus Coleman - he linked up well and was a constant threat, while Perch looked uncomfortable and Forest were unbalanced. Is it any co-incidence that Forest scored the most goals whilst Shorey was in the LB position.

Shorey's defending may be a little suspect facing goal, but going forward he was class and his early balls into the box were bread and butter to Dex and Earnie.

The LB position has got to be one Billy's priority - as I seem to recall another left back under a certain BC becoming the lynch pin to many a successful Forest performance, and the launching of many a winger into the mainstand - rumour has it that Gallagher was on the roof for two days after meeting Mr Pearce.

Good luck to Blackpool but I strongly suspect that they will do a Burnley if they go up. Players too old, and ground too small to allow the Seasiders to sustain any sort of run. This is not sour grapes, as I think it would have been too soon for Forest - we need a LB and a midfield that doesn't disappear during the second half when under pressure - Derby, Leicester and many away performances since Derby - I should know cos I was at most of them.

It's been a fantastic season, worth it just for Cohen's goal at Blackpool and to see 28,000at the city ground singing their hearts out.

Bring on next season - when - who knows McGoldrick may loose some weight and stop running like Paul Wilkinson.

If Cardiff don't get promoted they will probably get wound up and start on -10 points next season. This business man's been on the verge of putting his mythical £6M for 6 months. Its obvious to see that they were given a stay of execution because they could pay off HMRC if they got promoted.

Well played Blackpool you fully deserve to be in the final and although you broke our hearts I think most Forest fans will be backing you in the final.

One thing if you do go up make sure you get more than 11 points - I'd hate Derby to lose their only achievement in decades.

Absolutely. Any team prepared to go 3 up front AWAY rather than defend a lead deserves respect.
At times they looked like they had a 5 man midfield, then I realised Charlie Adam was doing the work of 3 players. He was simply outstanding. The b**tard! :)

Yup, well done Blackpool. Played some nice football, and deserve to go through. I can honestly say I will cheer them if they beat Leicester or Welsh-dodgy-finance-scum.

For me Keith Southern was by far their best player in both legs. Adam did very little in comparison to him and Vaughan. Those two really kept the shape. We need a couple more hard working centre mids like those. Nothing fancy, just hard work for 90 mins, strong tackling, challenge for everything, positionally excellent and short, simple passing and moving, always available.

Coleman was impressive as well. He had a couple of good games for Everton before he want to Blackpool, obvious Premiership quality there.
