Nobody seems to have mentioned that we haven't lost any of our players during the transfer window either. For a club in second place in the Championship, with lower placed Premiership teams sure to have been sniffing around for themselves, that's got to be a good thing.

Bottom line is we still have exactly the same squad that has got us to second place and went unbeaten for 19 games, and before anyone waves Nicky Shorey in my face, he was in the team for less than half of those games. We have no significant injury worries (in fact we're much better off on the injuries front now than we were when we started our unbeaten run, with the likes of Moussi and Perch now back at last). And there's still the loan window to look forward to, which proved so unbelievably fruitful for us last year. I see absolutely no reason to be upset that we weren't bullied into making an unnecessary signing and splashing out millions when we didn't need to.

Yes, we could do with adding a decent left-back to the squad. Let's see if Billy manages to bring one in on loan next month. In the meantime, everyone relax, and don't let one slip-up against the c**ting Rams delude you into thinking that the wheels have suddenly fallen off.

That's a great post and pretty much sums up how I feel about things.

It is disappointing yet we have come this far with our current squad, we're winning, we're fit and with a couple of strategic loan signings to strengthen further, we have every chance to pushing for the top spot.

ditto

The main thing is we need to get behind the team on saturday no matter how pissed off we are.

Not surprised in the slighest to be honest. They had a list of several players but clearly have a strategy (wage cap) that they are not prepared to stray too much from. Mixed views on this but at the end of the day it's ND's money and no one else's. Maybe it will come back to bite him on the bum but it's decision and I respect that. I must admit though that we should have got Kyle Naughton from Spurs - how the f**k did Boro get him with our DP connection? Hey ho! it's not like we haven't been here before! ::)

WTF do we want him for, when we have Mckenna and Moussi who can do the same job.

The majority of the deals that have been done in the transfer window are loans, and guess what? You can still do loans, so whats the problem.

i thought he also played left wing which is the position i assume we were looking at for moses was it not and a position along with left back that most people have said we need to look at. if he doesn't/hasn't played left wing i take back my suggestion lol i obviously got it wrong but i have always considered him a player that played out wide as well as in the middle?

Quality post mate, spot on.

He joined on 24th Nov when we were 9th in the league. He left when we were 2nd.

Now I'm not doing any waving around the facial area, however this is a fact.

I'd argue Shorey is a loss. Im not downbeat. But we are a hell of a lot weaker til the end of the season. Derby exposed us there all game, and others will target it!

shame about not getting a left back in (well a decent one anyway ) and was still hoping to see shorey come in but nevermind i'm sure we'll still have a decent finish to the season , bit annoying that newcastle addressed their problem of enrique being injured by signing a very good left back straightaway though , why couldn't we ? we've only needed one for ....erm ...a long time

Because we pay Championship wages. And will continue to pay them for quite a while the way it's going. What you pay is what you get. Simples

Oh well, to be fair no-one really expected us to make major signings in January...

Hmmmmmmm
Shorey, Naylor, Whitbread and Bale, are already being touted as possible targets, but they are just the tip of the iceberg from what we've been told.

not even the tip of an icecube . :D oh well ....

Does this mean we lose the "money bags Forest" tag now and revert to "cash strapped Forest" until the summer again :D. It's always one or the other.

Yes, that's true, but that doesn't alter the fact that we were already around ten games unbeaten when he arrived. His presence in the team didn't herald a sudden turnaround in our fortunes - we'd already been winning regularly, and with Shorey in the side, we simply carried on winning regularly. The reason we were ninth when he got here was that we had such a dodgy start to the season. Shorey joined a side that was already making steady progress up the league.

That said, I'm not saying for one minute that Shorey wouldn't have been a very welcome permanent signing. All I am saying is that not signing Shorey is not in itself the end of the world and it doesn't mean that we're suddenly going to start losing every game we play, or that we have to give up on our dream of finishing in the top two.

And of course we've never tried paying Prem money in the Championship have we? h..humm

However, any real left-back would most certainly be a welcome addition to the squad. I am somewhat dismayed by the fact that Perch is looking odds on to be deployed there for the rest of the season now. Cometh the Iceman. Would could be in serious, serious trouble with a couple of knocks. We still possess a very small squad.

You can manipulate stats, I appreciate that. But prior to Shorey's arrival we had drawn four games on the bounce, conceeding in all of them. After his arrival we played nine, won seven and kept five clean sheets in the process.

I think he (or it may have just been the fact we had a proper LB) made a big difference, and as I mentioned before, it would be heart breaking to miss out by a few points at the end of the season. Everyone will look back on this months failings and wonder what if.

We do know that at approximately 4.45pm this afternoon messrs Arthur and Pelling were seen playing a game called 'head the screwed up bit of paper once known as the aquisitions list into the bin'.

Apparently Mark Arthur won 5-3!

Newcastle aquire Leon Best.

Now, I know that Davies has said that we aren't ready to go up, though he would like to manage Forest in the Premiership, but it's perhaps a true sign of our comittment for promotion that we loose Shorey and gain no-one.
