Confusion

I'm a little confused, pleased, but confused.

We're bringing in very good players for our level for fairly large sums of money. This is without a massive increase in sponsorship or attendence. If Blackstock signs then we'll have Tyson, Garner, Adebola, Earshaw, McGoldrick and he. Is this sustainable from an outright fee or wage point of view? I'm not so sure, never mind the players we're accumulating elsewhere...

Realistically we still need a LB and possibly a new CB, this could well be about couple of million + 1.5 for Blackstock. A big outlay.

I'm not saying I'm angry, or disappointed, I'm just a little uncomfortable looking at other clubs who've attempted to buy themselves up leagues and have ended up in a lot worse situations as a result.

Thoughts? I'm not a whinger, I'm genuinely feeling optimistic, maybe it's just that a feeling of optimism is so foreign to me that I'm looking more nervously at everything than usual.

Sorry - to gain promotion to the Prem needs investment. I can't think of a team which has joined the top flight simply by building a squad slowly. They must have worked out the figures. Extra attendance, more pies and scarves, more corporate facilities, more boxes sold etc. Also, very few of our signings would have been cash straight away - some payments are made over the length of the player's contract. Doughty knows what he's doing.

mayhap this is the long awaited fruits of the dreaded 5 year plan

My guess is that one or 2 players will be out especially if we get a LB and CH - Thornhill, Davies and possibly Garner.

ND isn't daft enough to spend money the he/club doesnt have. He would still be hurting from the last time we were that in debt !

think club is uping it's game a bit to gain more revenue from us fans and corparate .

club shop refit - (even though no new shirts yet !!!!!)
nffcretail website - this is a good investment , easier for fans to buy exactly what they want
memberships - if i didnt have a season ticket i would definatley get one of these
corparate - right now this is being built http://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/page/Hospitality/0,,10308~1072356,00.html (In Brian Clough stand)

all seems very positive

I think the key is that ND finally has faith in a manager... We have been working away at sorting the finances for a few years now and i think the increase in wages will be sustainable for a couple of years. If we fail in that time we have plenty of young quality to get the money back and start again.

Fair point, but i also thinks this raises the point that getting in a up and coming manager (ie CC) was a balls up. I dont think ND would have had the faith to chuck this sort of cash at him.

Doughty is a shrewd buisnessman and I trust in him 100% to ensure we never come close to ruin again.

Indeed he is.

With the credit crunch effecting business, investing in football (and "the club he loves") seems a better option.

We have one of the best managers at this level to achieve promotion and the guaranteed £60 million windfall from the Premiership.
