clubs have 3 weeks to go into administration

reading the paper today and struggling clubs have just over 3 weeks to decide to go into adminstration.

if they do so on or before march 26th they will have 10 points docked THIS season.

if they do it after then the points get docked NEXT season.

this could affect forest league position as southampton and charlton are in big trouble.

surely charlton and maybe southampton are down anyway and would prefer the point deduction this season than next?

It will be interesting to see how this affects teams around us, if it does !

It could be an interesting 3 weeks, however Im'm not sure Southampton would think they are 'down anyway' when they are 3 points from safety with a game in hand..

Didn't Leeds try something similar a few years back. Didn't go into administration in Championship as they banked on staying up. However they didn't stay up and had the points come off in League 1 and then didn't even make the play offs?

that's why this new rule has been made because of what Leeds did

This new rule about a certain administration deadline is a revision of the rule that a club takes the points penalty in the current season, unless they are already relegated.

It was brought in after Leeds joyfully took the piss out of the Football League by going into administration when they were notionally able to stay up, but their goal difference was so poor it was all but impossible. So they took the hit and went down with the points penalty.

However, their plan folded nefarious scheme was foiled when the Football League decided to hit them with a 15 point penalty for the next season, that's last season and their first in League One, which as I'm sure you will remember, saw them miss out on automatic promotion and fail in the play-offs.

Bloody Hell what a ridicules thing to say no wonder other fans think we're arrogant, a win for them and a defeat for us tonight and we're separated only by goal difference. We're currently right in the shit with em. No maybe about that

You'd think they'd look at the situation if Southampton did it in 4 weeks. The deduction this season would hurt them so much more.

Not sure how bad Charlton's finances are, but if they are bad then I can imagine them going into administration now and taking the penalty.

I live and work near Southampton and know that they are in a terrible financial mess. This is why almost all their decent wage earners have been out on loan for most of the season. Two weeks ago the odds on the going into administration would've been very short, but a couple of wins mean they are right in the mix again now and I can't believe they will do it as there would be uproar from the supporters.

Southampton are most definately not. They are 3 points off us. Charlton I would argue are dead and buried but they have been picking up results of late and could potentially leave it for next season should their league position improve.

If the Directors of the club believe that it is personally and financially beneficial for "them" to put the club into administration they will do it. The fans and debtors can jump up and down as much as they like - It's the Director's call. If Southampton's & Charlton's directors would prefer a clean slate in League next season and take the knock now, rather than risk 10 points less in League 1, they will call it now. Interesting! What does Marthur say?

Not necessarily.

If they go into admin before March 26th then they'll be deducted 10 points this season.

If they go into admin after March 26th then their points deduction will be suspended until the end of the season. If the club are subsequently relegated then they'll start next season on -10. If they stay up then they'll have 10 points docked from their final total.

I won't say anyone is gone until its mathematically impossible for them to stay up.

Come to think of it, Leeds left it till right before the last day of the season when they had to beat Derby 14-0 or something ridiculous!!! So unless that rule was put in place recently that is not the case.

The rule was put in place after the Leeds scenario.

They did make the playoffs.

Doncaster beat them in the final.

Haha, would be most amusing if every team were deducted 10 points - would give us and QPR a fighting playoff chance!
