Climate camp planning to close Ratcliffe Power station Oct 17th.....

One of the biggest most destructive climate camps is heading to Nottingham the day of the Newcastle game, the plan being to knock off power to the 3rd biggest power station in Britain, over 2000 protesters are expected which not only will cause chaos to the A453, but could also knock the power off at the city ground and Sky TV who are covering the game, my question to them is surely 2000 people coming from all over the country in big nasty buses isn't environmentally friendly is it? To the police, why don't you think you can stop them? and back to the protesters if you ruin one of the biggest games of the seasons for 30000 Forest fans how do you think your tree hugging hyppy tents will protect you? Furthe to this, just found out E-ON have employed Gurkha's to protect the site, good on them.

I bet half of those people use/waste as much energy as anybody else. They should put their efforts into finding alternative and efficient power sources, or ways of using less power instead. Ways which don't interrupt football, which is far more important than than the environment :)

Clearly the answer is to buy a ticket and watch it live.

I think we may need the floodlights though come the end of the game, being a late kick off :)

Are they actually planning to attack and close down the power station, or are they (more likely) just going to protest outside it and block traffic? If it's a peaceful protest then good luck to them.

They are planning to shut the power station down. amazingly they have done it to other e-on sites before, on there website they they are talking about training camps they are running for possitive action to shut the plant down. My friend works at the power station and is having to stay there all weekend as they dont think they will be able to get in and out. The protestors also have photos of sub stations and other equiptment needed to shut the place down.

If there was any disruption to this game from this protest it would be the diversion of police resources and the game will get cancelled.

Since the cops have known about this since 8th September when the protesters announced it they still think the can police both events. Why is this? Because the cops know that the 'Cliamte Camp' is A SYMBOLIC PROTEST, the protestors do not really intend to 'swoop the control room and take over', they want to generate some news for themselves and hopefully get arrested so they can draw out this issue in the media.

You're all being a bit over dramatic. Besides, saving the planet is more important than a game of football, surely?

Also, this 2kw plant can be shut down at a weekend, with little effect to the grid.

Is that so they know what one looks like?

Are they carrying a pocket full of photos, each clearly labelled -'This is a substation', 'This is a crowbar', 'This is a high voltage cable', 'This is a screwdriver'?

Only when the last tree has been cut down;
Only when the last river has been poisoned;
Only when the last fish has been caught;
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten. (old proverb)

keep fiddling my friends for Rome is burning!!

I think you'll find that my 6L Hummer eats money quite well :p I don't actually have a 6 Litre Hummer - but why let the truth get in the way of pissing someone off :)

Did anyone else read the title and think "has lee camp has turned into a super hero?"
CLIMATE CAMP, TO THE RESCUE!

On a more serious note, who's going to clean up after them? They have these "camps" and leave the place like a shit hole, not to mention how they get there and the fires they have, they piss me of the bunch of hypocritical nobends

I vaguely agree with the sentiment of what they're doing, but really, like someone else said, I think they'd be better putting time and effort into finding coal alternatives. Maybe they all think there are alternatives and "they" are keeping them from us.

They do their bit for the environment, saving electricity by not washing and living in tents.

I'd bring the Geordie supporter buses down the A453, that would sort things out.
