Obviously I don't want us to be relegated. Its just that winning a major trophy isn't something I ever saw as remotely feasible, and now we're 3 matches away from that.
People will talk about our success. I never really talk about our relegations, but our European Cup success IS the history of the club.
I want to win this competition so badly. I understand the long term ramifications if we get relegated and how it could seriously affect the club for a very long time, but after that time is over we will still have a European trophy and I would have been there to see it. It'll last a lifetime for me.
Everyone's different though and everyone sees it differently.
I'm perfectly fine with being a club that just muddles through from season to season doing the best we can to stay in the league, but this kind of success? Its just huge.
I understand, I do. I would like us to stay up and win the cup, but staying up gives us the chance to rebuild in the Prem and try for Europe again. Mr Marinakis doesn't want us to be a team that just muddles along. He wants us to be up challenging.

Many teams have bounced back up after going down, but there are teams in the past like Luton and Wolves and like Leicester look like doing this season, who have dropped down in successive seasons. Having spent so many seasons trying to get to the Prem I would rather not see us get relegated. even at the expense of a permanent cup win being writ on the clubs record.

We aren’t talking about the new chapter in Spurs’ glorious history though are we, and neither is anyone else.
In fact, alot of people constantly and consistently talk about Spurs winning the Europa League as a memorable achievement.

Certainly more memorable than coming 14th-17th in the Premier league every year for the next 5 years would be for us. Still, if that's really what the fans want at the expense of winning trophies who am I to tell them they are wrong?

I’ve never heard anyone, and that includes the spurs fans I know. I’m in Yorkshire though to be fair.

I’ll take glory over most things myself. I’m just still so bored of Stoke, Milwall and West Bromwich f***ing Albion that I can’t be arsed with the championship on that basis. It’s wort putting up with VAR to sta on this nice long break from these dull bloody teams I don't care about one way or another. 20 years of it we had. At least third tier for some new away days in, it was like a cheaper, shitter Europe.

I would argue though that maintaining Premier League status hopefully puts you in a position where potentially winning a trophy can be more than just a one-off.

If you go down there's no guarantee you'll come back up and even if you do it's potentially years again before we even become relatively competitive again.
I wonder how many teams have actually won a trophy since the Premier League started (obviously when football was invented ;)). I would love us to be one of those.

Each year Premier League teams have a maximum of 6 available trophies. The league, the FA cup, the League Cup, the Champions League, the Europa League, the conference league. Of those, only 3 are possible, if improbable for the majority of the premier league teams. Even those 3 are often dominated by the same teams (cartel clubs). The other 3 European one’s come with the challenge of a wider set of opponents, which to my mind makes then more difficult still. The more I think about it from a personal perspective (maybe I’m an old romantic) I would love us to win one, even if it meant relegation.

I do understand the concern of not coming back up. Although a part of me thinks that if we don’t think we could come back up then why would we have confidence that if we stayed up we could maintain our place based on this years performance.

Obviously the dream is staying up and winning the Europa League, no matter how tough or unlikely that may be. However the kid in me still dreams of lifting a trophy, not a chance of me doing it personally, so I live vicariously through the teams I support.

I think they are struggling to have the balls to talk about their success given their current state, but rest assured they will be talking about in years to come, same as they bang on about other cup wins, its what they do.

VP said to Colin that Wood and Murrilo should be fine for Burnley game
Both their injuries are more impact/bruising, and the Murillo sub was definitely precautionary, given the state of the game. Wood, I can completely understand them saying to him 'give it 5 minutes, and if you don't feel right, we'll bring you off'. You only have to look at the bruising that came out in the time between the physio attendances.

If I haven't missed anyone:
The evil 6
The bin dippers
Blackburn
Villa
Everton
Swansea
Wigan
Portsmouth
Palace
Newcastle
Boro
Birmingham
West Ham

51 clubs have played in the Prem since it started (34 years). Only 17 teams have won domestic trophies, 18 overall including Europe, and only 7 have won European honours (if I'm adding that up right). It's rare, especially outside the Sky 6. For most of those teams it's one League Cup or FA Cup or in West Ham's case the Conference League. If I'm right, only Blackburn (2) and Leicester (4 ) have won multiple trophies in that time outside of the usual suspects. I want a trophy. I obviously don't want to go down, it would be horrendous - but you can always come back up (yes I know 23 years). But it's 42 since we got cheated by Anderlecht - time to right that wrong and add the lesser European trophy into our cabinet.

This is what I'm talking about.
We can either be winners or be also-rans for the rest of our time in the EPL.
Our chance to be winners is now.

Awesome work.

Based on that list, one could argue that Leicester City are the 7th biggest team in the premier league era.

Forget cheating and administration, and the Forest tinted specs we all wear, how many of our fans would rather have our premier league era v Leicesters, even if it meant a right now we were sitting near the bottom of the championship?

Feel like I need a shower after writing that…

That Murillo sub was a complete mess. They told him to go back on but they'd already made the sub already so he had to come off.

Watching that tackle back again and its such a cowards challenge.

Never mind the fact Wood is just coming back from injury, that sort of contact right on a player's knee can end careers.

It deserves a long ban.
The view from behind Wood made me wince a bit, where you see the knee overextend sideways, the perfect way to tear a medial ligament..

It gets worse every time you see it

You can see Wood's leg bend in a completely unnatural way at the knee

Horrific tackle
You would nearly think they knew he was a danger man, had suffered a knee injury that will need managing for the rest of his career, and targeted that.

I suspect those fans watching Spurs fail to beat team after team aren't sitting there consoling themselves with their Europa League win - they're shitting themselves about being relegated. My neighbour is a season ticket holder, and his view is that to be in the Championship is to be irrelevant in footballing terms (from a monetary and prestige perspective), and i can't say he's wrong.

Oh no! My football team isn't 'relevant' enough!

Let's face it, being outside the top 5 makes you irrelevant in terms of the media. I don't measure my fandom or my enjoyment of Forest that way.
