After reading of the rumours that that Cohen is on his way to Bolton seems quite a few of us are sad to hear we may lose him.

But what does he actually bring to the team?

He can't shoot, cross, tackle or take a decent set piece which surely are 3 major attributes of a inner mid/left wing/left back.

Just wondering why do we rate him so highly.

Well he can shoot, before this season he just didn't do it very often. His set-pieces are very hit and miss, he can do some good ones. He can also tackle, this is aided by the fact that he's the only Forest player who will run for 90 minutes up and down, winning balls that he has no right too.

Absolutely baffling  and yet many of you will defend sh*t like Perch incredible. Cohen is a very good player and the likes of we need to keep, i never thought the day would come where Cris Cohen would be questioned, think i'll just keep my mouth shut from now on before i end up in hot water...

4 goals in a season hardly suggest he can shoot unless you are just counting shots on target?

Surely running for 90 minutes means nothing unless you actually do something. We may as well play Paula Radcliffe in that case.

you idiot

cohen is the engine in the team

we would be shit without him

I agree with you that he cant shoot..well he can shoot but not that good, BUT he will track back, tackle, run his heart out, win the ball and pass it on, HE CAN take a decent free kick too, when given the chance and as someone has already said, he is the engine in the squad, if all the players took a page out of his book, then we would be unstoppable. defo worth keeping at all costs imho.

He does do things though, he wins the ball, and passes to other players. He is quite a good passer of the ball. He can also play well in a variety of positions.

I rate him, I think he has improved since he has been with us and would expect him to improve further. Work rate second to none, good passer, one of the first on the team sheet for me. Have to say I disagree with the sentiment in the first post.

I bet the same people who don't rate Cohen DO rate Majewski, who just went half a season doing absolutely nothing (and we then paid £1m for the pleasure).

As far as Cohen goes, football isn't just about what happens at either end of the pitch. He brings a lot of energy to the game and is the best player on the pitch at pressing the opposition - pressing being probably the key element in a Billy Davies' side. However, to say he lacks quality is nonsense. He gets in a lot of goal scoring positions, helps the team to keep the ball, and can certainly pass a ball much better than most of his team mates.

If he could finish, the rest of his game would enable him to get 10 goals from midfield. His year-on-year improvement in goal scoring suggests he will get better and may yet reach that ambitious height. He has scored some quality goals even accepting that he wastes some easy opportunities.

IMO he is one of the best tacklers we've got, can shoot, cross and take free kicks as well as anyone in the squad. IMO what he mainly brings to the team is his commitment and workrate to keep going box to box all game, winning the ball, beating a man and giving it simple.

It never ceases to amaze me how we can disagree so completely on who we rate and who we don't :nowink:.

He can pass, he can tackle and he can shoot. He hits the target from range a lot more consistently than any other of the midfielders and you've only got to look back through last season to see how many goals he's involved in and chances he's created.

I think people assume because he runs around a lot, he musn't be very good.

I don't like to take sides 'cause I like them both but people rave over Majewski, who despite playing further up the pitch and having umpteen more shots still only got the same amount of goals. Cohen's also a player that plays well for 90 minutes, every game, Majewski rarely does.

CA makes a great point about closing down as well, when we play well we press high up the pitch and the majority of that is down to Cohen.

So far everyone disagrees but can't actually tell me why I am wrong.

Maybe I could be right?
apart from the fact he can pass well ,shoot well ,tackle well ,takes decent set pieces ,has excellent work rate , presses the oposition better than anyone else and is half decent at winning headers , hmmmm need any more ? ..........you are absolutely way off . :spankarse:

his work rate, and the fact our entire midfeild shuts down when he isnt part of it, I cant realy explain what cohen brings to the team or what he does well and not so well I just know he runs his socks off and when hes in the midfeild possition we seem more ballanaced and the player around him have better games.

Cohen is first on my team sheet every week which is emphasised by the fact that he played 44 times last season and was 1 of only 3 outfield players to do so with Gunter and Morgan. Like everyone else has said, his short range passing, tracking back, tackling, work rate, engine and all round play makes him the player that he is. As a team we dont really shoot that much from distance but you only have to look at his goal against Blackpool and the cool finish in the game against Boro to see that the boy has got class in abundance, I dont think anyone else in the side would have scored that goal against Blackpool. If Davies picks him 44 times in 1 season then he cant be all that bad

I rate him he can clearly shoot, he can clearly tackle and he passes the ball well. On top of that he never stops running he's very very good.

You need examples? Well how about the goal against blackpool for shooting my personal favourite. tackles urm take your mind back to Man City how did we manage to get the 2nd goal he chased down the ball and tackled Micah Richards won a ball he should never had won. For tackles just go watch.. most games he made some great crunching tackles.

Don't get why you cannot rate him. He has quality and he just never stops.

Whilst I wouldn't be quite as critical as Dylans first post, I must admit, I don't rate him that highly. Work rate and commitment is absolutely top in the club but some of his delivery and shooting frustrates me.

Maybe a run in Centre midfield would be beneficial to him, but being played wide clearly doesn't suit him.

Wouldn't want to see him leave but if that £5million has any weight to it.....
