has been my player of the season so far, where does the signing of Shorey leave him?

Suspended :D ( Made me laugh anyway)

I think he's still got a very important role in CM, possibly even the opportunity to move Ando to the right, drop Garner and have Chris on the left ?

Reckon he will now play the Garner roll of the left away from home. Billy may even play the 5 in midfield as he has done earlier in the season.

By the way my player of the season so far is Big Wes

Amen to that. Cohen has been excellent recently though, thought he was a driving force in our comeback at the weekend. I'm almost a bit disappointed that he probs won't be playing there again!

Big Wes my player of the season so far too, but Chris Cohen has been excellent in a role he doesn't know that well.

One thing that made me think about Shorey's signing though; maybe Nathan Tyson's injury will keep him out longer than we feared, and Billy wants some depth on the left - how about a Cohen/Shoery left flank? That would be pretty good, as Mr. Cohen - of course - was last year's player of the season mostly in a left midfield role?

Cohen will be moved into midfield, which is by far his strongest position.

I rate him as the best midfielder at the club so Shorey's signing is fantastic just as much in the sense he can be deployed here now.

But what happens when Tyson comes back on the left? Thats the problem with having too many good players I guess ::)

I'm starting to think that the Shorey deal was already done and dusted and that both clubs were just waiting for January.

Hats off to BD though because he moved very quickly to get Shorey in once Cohen was suspended and this is why I believe there was something going off in the background.

It seems he couldn't have just gone out and loaned him at this particular time - it said it was done as an emergency loan. Suppose it doesn't matter now he's here - Roll on Saturday.

Too many good players YES but they are all young, so Billy will keep giving them all sweeties to keep them happy. :snack:

Anderson moved to the right side of midfield.

Cohen on the left side of midfield.

Garner on the bench.

Tyson as an alternate either wide in midfield or upfront.

Gives BD much more options now.

Assuming Shorey slots in and plays well, Cohen will replace Garner's midfield role (except on the left). Which essentally means he'll be on the bench most matches when we've got a fully fit squad.

I like Cohen's attitude and workrate, but he's not really likely to command a 1st team position in midfield this season.

Player of the season so far has to be Wes, with Blackstock a close second and Ando in third.

On the left wing I guess.

Unless we continue to not play Majewski all the time in which case central midfield could well be where he plays.

I think he'll probably be the 'pivot' player, who allows us to easily switch between 4-3-3 (in which case he'll be a central midfielder) and 4-4-2 (where he'd be out on the left wing), during a match, without the need for substitutions. Let's not forget that when Billy does start with a 4-3-3, we do look a little short in midfield (assuming we're counting Perch as a defender now)...with McGugan the only back up for three players in McKenna, Moussi and Majewski. Anyone think that Cohen has the abilities to play the McKenna role if anything happens to our skipper?

I think Billy might see Cohen as the man to score the fabled 8-10 goals a season in a more advanced midfield role.

Hmm...Chris' goal-scoring record up to this point would make that rather a long-shot...

I don't think he can play the McKenna role. I think that is definately a Moussi role. I don't personally think Moussi and Mckenna playing together is ideal because it just seems too defensive in my eyes. However while it's working we shouldn't really change anything unless we have too.

I think putting him out on the wing is ideal. I think he is probably the best left footed crosser of the ball at the club and I just can't see him beating Majewski and McGugan and McKenna and Moussi to the central midfield slots.

That's because he has been out wide or the 'box-to-box' player for us.

From BD ...

""There's no doubt that at full back we've now got excellent potential in Nicky Shorey and Chris Cohen."

So is Cohen now officially a defender?

Was about to mention this myself. Does make good interest doesn't it. Perhaps he doesn't need him as a midfielder but as a full back? Who knows but I think the whole round pegs in round holes theory has been chucked out the window even if in this article BD is trying to say it should not be the case anymore.

Billy said himself last night to basically ignore everything he says to the press.
