Wasn't aware there was a time issue on someone being recognised as a good player at some point by someone who knows what they are talking about?

In truth, since he came here, we've hardly been a club worthy of being reported on.
The reference to Jeffers is simply to say that you do not live on past performances. Obviously Ray Clemence is a respected goalkeeping coach but I am going to have to say again you do not live of what respected coaches have said about you in the past.

I do not like over criticising single players but Paul Smith is light years away from the goalkeeper that Ray Clemence is describing in that article, just like Francis Jeffers is light years away from being the player they thought he was going to be while at Arsenal.

The point I was actually illustrating was exactly what you're saying.

People can be critical of Smith, even though he has been praised by Clemence, so I can be critical (even though Iw asn't particularly) of Hart, even though he has been praised by Clemence.

For the record, I wasn't being critical of Hart, I just think he isn't the Great Goalkeeping Hope that this country needs, and is desperate to find.

To be fair Rich I'm not sure Hart is what this club needs ATM as the position is under the microscope from all angles and it could really damage a young hope like Hart.

I think it is very unlikely but personally I would love to see Craig Gordon here, but I think i'm just dreaming.

Truth be told, as long as the bigger clubs keep buying in foriegn keepers then our prospects will not progress as expected. Look at the names you mentioned earlier, all have at some stage been forced out of their 'host' club by foreign players. Trouble is that clubs want instant success and can buy it. The other trouble is that this passes on down the line , mostly in some fans, who want the same at their club but the club cannot afford it.

Gordon is someone I hadn't even considered, to be honest.

I thought, and still think, that it would be a HUGE step down for him.

However, his confidence took an absolute smashing last season, and I'm not 100% sure he's fully recovered, so it could potentially do him some good here.

whilst the goalkeeping position is under scrutiny at this club, he'll immediately have the fans on his side, as he isn't Paul Smith, which is all it takes to get people to like you at Forest.

Problem is a lot of clubs even lower down are charging as much to watch their product as some of those near to the top.

It's not rocket science the more you pay for a product the more you expect, and that I'm afraid IMO is what football has become.

Absolutely spot on.

The same is true of outfield players.

I was having the discussion about Anderson the other day. Excellent player, but won't make it at Liverpool as they almost flatly refuse to bring anyone through the ranks/from the reserve team through anymore. If a player doesn't cost a team £30m, the fans don't want to know. Plus, the board are very much wanting instant success, so will prefer to spend £30m, which enables them to demand results, rather than work on a learning curve.

I think home grown players are imperative to the national side, and the game as a whole.

The Premiership has become an absolute farce because of this.

However, there is always the valid point that in the weekends big game, home grown players on the field included: Gerrard, Carragher, Giggs, Scholes, along with other British born and bought players such as Carrick, Ferdinand and Rooney.

It's an interesting debating point. Here's a question, If Steven Gerrard was 20 years old, would he get in the Liverpool team, or would Rafa buy Frank Lampard or someone?

How tangible has the ability to succeed become?

I think it's a fine art to be able to spot a young talent to nurture and one that is ready to throw straight into the frontline, and it's one that only a few current managers get right on a regular basis, and as much as I dislike him Fergie IMO is unrivalled with this ability.

Fergie is fantastic in this.

He takes his time, though.

He has already seeing the end ofhis current crop, and you can see the new young faces he's bringing in, who will be the youngsters in a side where the likes of Rooney and Tevez become the elder statesmen.

He's been injured for a while...and to be fair to Fulop he's done an admirable job in his absence.

Gordon did make a few basic errors earlier in the season also, Although I think the huge fee has weighed on his mind but I have no doubt if he has the mindset to put this to one side he has the ability to play for one of the top sides.

No disrespect but he is not what I'd call the usual type of Scottish GK, in other words he's good

Joe Hart would really be amazing, and I would be delighted with Gordon as well. Not sure about Itandje, saw him for Liverpool a while back and wasn't impressed. Then again, he can't be as bad as Smith can he?

Get real boys.

Nick.

Once known as Nick.Doyle.nffc on 'ere.
Itandje isn't too bad of a goalkeeper.
Gordon, would be great. I can't see it though.

Hart would be good, as now it looks like Given has took his place.

What are you lot on? That Itandje bloke is f***ing rubbish.

Although he might be beneficial in the long run if we did get him as it'd make all the Smith haters realise how short sighted they are.
