Character in the Dressing Room ?

Maybe one point we are looking past is the characters and leaders as BD has mentioned before.

Think about it. You start a new job as a fresh faced 18 year old after college. You join and see all the experienced people around. Those who have seen, done and achieved it all. You look to them for inspiration on the best way to go about your job, and day to day in the office. Something you see as a catastrope, to them seems like a minor inconvenience.

Now picture that office filled with young inexperienced lads. They don't quite know the job inside out, find it hard to prioritise and generally there is a cluster f***. How many of you dare leave apprentices etc on their own that inexperienced ?

Now, is this the problem we have ? Too many shrinking violets and not enough loud mouth confident players ? The difference was almost instant as Camp came in. A very confident (and I picture him being quite a confident character).

Of the whole side I can only really see Brecks as the sort to lead and be a noisy bugger in the dressing room ! i think this is what he is going on about. If you mess up, who is there to give you a bollocking and then inform you where you should be standing ? I think this is where our defence falls down. I don't want this to turn into a Camp vs Smith argument. They both have their own strengths and weaknesses. HOWEVER, I do see Smudges main weakness as his commanding of his area. How many times did we see Camp screaming and shouting, getting the defence into position, marshalling and ordering them, just as if they were his defence, because they were. I never saw Smudge shouting or pointing out his back line like that ever.

I genuinely believe that the lack of leadership on the field is our big downfall ! In the dressing room, almost father-like figures to look upto ! Wes, Wilson, even perch seem like fairly quiet players on the pitch.

Look back to Psycho. He marshalled the entire team, and if you didn't do what you were told, boy were you in for it ! Shilton, totally dominated his defence, so much that it was almost like watching him play subbuteo !

Jones would of been a great addition I feel. But I do also feel we need Camp in. As a back-up or as first choice. There are certain things you just can't teach and are very hard to come by in football, and in the dressing room.

I also think that maybe CC's tactic of bringing in players to 'suit the dressing room' may have had the odd flaw. Whilst it stopped any trouble makers, it did seem to stem the influx of influential personalities and I do think we saw this to our detriment, even in league 1 !

Sorry, don't mean to bore but a few thoughts of mine !

Totally agree with that. I only see Brecks as well but some of the people that come on here have been slaying him for years. They even used to slay Commons. Yet when shovel foot Morgan goes on a run everyone is in raptures.

We need more real footballers.

You're right and, to be fair, I think this is something Billy has realised from the onset.

Dare I say it? Bollocks, I'll say it anyway, but what we need is a 'Robbie Savage' type.

Someone older, someone who has played the field, a strong player both physically, mentally and emotionally. Someone who can lead and direct and advise. Someone who is respected both on and off the pitch. Someone who can motivate and inspire and work with the younger players.

We have been missing this link for a long long time and have made few ill and unsuccessful attempts to fill the post.

One person I did fail to mention was Cohen. Easily the best interview technique I have seen by a Forest player in years. No cliques, straight talking. It's more like he is having a conversation with the reproter than a pre-written interview. It is very easy to forget his age with a head like that on your shoulders and of that maturity. One day he will be a great captain, but i feel at the moment he is everybody's friend kind of chap. NOT a bad thing, but not a captain attribute. If he starts getting vocal then I feel there is a born leader in the making !

Tatally agree. However you feel about him, Savage sweats blood for the team. There aren't many like him about anymore but the kind I feel that Billy wants ! You can similarise (that an actual word ?) him with the Julian Dick's, Neil Ruddocks and Vinnie Jones of this world (minus the obvious violence lol).

If we get a couple (even one) of these in it will make a huge difference. I hate to keep on about him, because I do think Smudge is one of the best English shot stoppers in the country, but even though he was born a sheep, brought up as a sheep I dare anyone to not watch that save and peno save and not admire him for his passion afterwards !

THOMAS GRAVESEN!!

He's on 32, and only retired as no club showed interest!

There is probably a reason why no-one showed interest, but he'd do more than a decent job for us

I think Gravesone would be an incredible signing ! No coincidence in his leaving being related to Everton beginning to faulter (until recently) I would lick Billy's Ball's if he signed Gravesone ;D

I have said so many times to my family that what we need is a few experienced heads. I have seen these comments a fair few times in the past

1) "Too old, legs have gone."

That's not what the more statesmen players are about. You can run all over, but if that running is only like a headless chicken then it's a waste of time. What the more experienced players is a sharper mind than sharper legs.

2) "Kept passing the ball backwards or sideways."

Yeah, but a backwards/sideways pass maintains possession. How many times in recent games have the youngsters made the wrong choice and lost possession?

Youth is good, but still need some older heads in the squad who have that character about them to settle the players down and bring on the younger players. Lennon and Cole, while maybe not picking up their wages in terms of appearance, both had the potential to advance the abilities of the youngsters.

Could Andy Cole of been given more chance?

Would of been interesting to see what Davies would of done with him.

At least Morgan had bollocks and tries, he doesn't need to be Pele to play at Centre half, yet McGugan et al can't be arsed. If they don't want to play, f*** OFF THEN.

And the reason people cheer Wes (as they did today) isn't that he tries to be Franz Beckenbauer, but just that he *tries*.

Too many of them today (Morgan and Cohen aside) just looked lost today, and didn't compete. When Wes made the first run in the second half, it was mainly because he had the ball, and nobody came for it, he ended up taking it on himself.

Derby aren't all that, but we made them look like Real Madrid.

sounded like tyson was up for it from what i heard on the radio....what do you think about that?

I thought Tyson put in the effort today and his increasing frustration was beginning to show through in the second half. He ran tirelessly and beat his man on virtually every occasion.

Sadly, our midfield went AWOL and whenever ready to receive the hoofball there was some wool in the way.

Tyson is up for it most games, but lately, our tactics have been consisting of booting the ball up n the air for him to chase.

With neither he or Earnie being the biggest players, defenders sometimes have it easy (as they did today) as our tactics just seem one-dimensional.

I do feel sorry for Nathan sometimes; he runs his legs into the ground, but doesn't get enough of the ball? Derby are shakey at the back, and a better tactic would have been to play the ball along the ground and run at them; hoofing it long for their Centre Backs to head away is playing in one of their few strengths.

I feel for him. With a better visionary midfield he could be banging them in all over. The man doesn't get enough credit, especially bearing in mind how much he states he loves the club and wants to stay. If any of the top players stay, it will be him !

There are no leaders and it is as simple as that.

When the going gets tough the entire squad pretty much needs someone to look to. At the moment thats Perchy and he is 23/24 and his form shows he is the last person to look too at the moment.
