Sorry, I'm not a subscriber on forest world; is he the captain for the forthcoming season?

for me he needs to proove himself with at least a good season as number one centre back before we even consider him as captain. surely even then wes would be higher up the pecking order?

I will get slated for this but I have always rated Luke Chambers.

He was made an unfortunate 'scapegoat' by some fans when things started to go wrong.

He has always tries his best in whatever position he's played in and it's only now, where he is in his favoured position, that we are seeing what he is capable of.

I don't think he's ready to be captain just yet. Maybe another year down the line.

Hes Probably a better CB. Last season he got torn apart as i feel his main problem is he tries too hard and dives in all the time and gets skinned.

He suffered from being played out of position and from the perception that he was Calderwood's little pet and was in the team on favouritism. He should be given a go in his natural position.

Captain :nowink:

Luke Chambers i think next season, will hopefully be lucky to get on the subs bench. Wes and a new Centre Half, Gunter and hopefully Fox as the back 4.

I am admittedly not a fan of Chambers - i think he gives the ball away to much and is average at best, but agree he is better suited to Centre Back then Right Back.

I just don't rate him at all,and i do hope he not captain,By the looks of thing's,he will still be playing at RB. I don't think he's captain type.

Forest fans using a scapegoat? Don't be crazy, as if they'd do that! ::)

I decided a while back I don't really care about captains in football, anyone out there can shout, move people around and help out the youngsters. Why should you need an armband to let you do it? admittedly now it allows you talk to the referee (because everyone else had stopped doing it obviously) but that anager is there making the decisions. The idea of a captain came from cricket where a good captain is needed to set fields and make changes to things like batting orders and other decisions that change matches. In football the manager is at the side of the pitch doing all this.

If you made Chambers, Camp, Garner and Anderson captain for one game each I doubt anything would change in those games.

the manager can only command so much, as with all chain of command, each has a specific department/area and there must be someone on the pitch to orchestrate attitudes, discipline, advise and marshall, and if it is all going tits up, steady the ship. The players respect a captain in a different way to a manager as the captain is playing the game with them.

Saying that we dont have all the qualities in one player.

If you don't think a captains influence has a lot to do in a team, why single out players that wouldn't change in a game if they were given the armband?

A captain IMO is very important in a team. Certain players take naturally to being in charge (viera - keane), others when given the responsibility come into their own and change from being quiet to noisy. I personally play at a decent level, and when i was given the Captains armband, took it upon myself to gee up the players and myself for the game more than i had ever done previously, as you feel more responsible.

I used Chambers the one that is being linked with it and Camp who people say is loud and organises, I then used tow example less likely to be a contender to make the point.

Keane and Vieria were leaders before them armband came to them and would be if you took it away. If a player can lead they should do it before an armband comes to them and those pointed out on here to be captain are usually the ones doing that job anyway.

What exactly does a captain do that he couldn't do as a player? They don't change the formation or tactics, they don't swap players round. The manager does this as he's at the side of the pitch and you might notice that in any break in play someone goes over for instruction and they pass it on, doesn't have to be the captain.

Out of his depth at right back, he's certainly more comfortable at centre half but I worry he's not good enough in the air to regularly start next to Wes. If Brecks couldn't deal with someone like Rob Hulse last season, I fear Chambers wouldn't stand a chance. A good lad to have around the squad it seems, and certainly a squad player who can do a job in certain games but certainly not a starter or captain for me. Not yet anyway.

For me Chambers could probably be Morgan's CB partner next season. Wilson has looked woeful on numerous occasions, whereas Chambers has looked a revelation in his natural position (if that makes any sense).

Since we're struggling to bring in any new centre halves I think I'd turn to him if I was Davies, as he did against Sporting. Shrewd work. Signing Gunter could actually sign us a new centre half in that respect, although admittedly that's clearly spin! ;D

I like Chambers, he's hit and miss at right back but that's hardly a surprise since it's not his position.

During the closing weeks of the season he proved that he's a more than capable centre back at this level.

I'm a big fan of Chambers, and he has more than proven himself at CB. In the Forest World Interview, he said himself how he feels much more comfortable at CB and was "rusty" last season at RB.

He clearly wants to do well for this team, and under Billy's guidance he could become a very, very good centre half at this level.

Whether he gets the captain's armband full time this season remains to be seen, but being made captain against Sporting will have really boosted his confidence and I would not be at all adverse to seeing him partner Wes in central defence for the coming season.

I think this year there should almost be a clean sheet mentallity. Yes, Billy was here from January but with the new pre-season schedule most players have said being very different and a lot harder we don't know how different player might react. It sounds a little mad now but if Chambers gets played where he wants and gets a lot of benefit out of the new methods of training he could potentially end up player of the season. He's one of the players I'm most looking forward to seeing how they've developed over the off season along with McGugan, Wilson, Davies, Garner and Anderson.
