KO changed to 5.00 p.m. to be shown on BBC2

It'll be a better time to set out but means arriving back in Nottingham around 11.00 p.m.

Tempted what with it being a new ground etc - but it's a nuisance of a time :(

It's ridiculous really - I am a great believer in football being for Saturdays and Wednesdays. Just another example of how high the powers that be consider the convenience of the fans.

Its true Ninian Park was not the most atmospheric of places but you will have to admit that Cardiff have one of the more vocal away followings which I'm sure will be replicated in their new stadium.

Its got to better than than the echoy silence of the Ricoh.

Most clubs have vocal away followings, though.

For a supposedly intimidating ground, Ninian Park was more like a walk in the park in my last couple of visits.

I've yet to see a new build stadium that does anything to enhance the atmosphere of what went before it. Just look at Pride Park, godawful soulless and atmosphereless dome of pointlessness, whereas the Baseball Ground was a veritable cauldron.

Again, true. I left early last season to beat the traffic out of Cardiff. I walked all the way to the car with my forest shirt proudly standing out from the crowd,, it was one of the safest walks from a football ground i've ever experienced!

Tis true new grounds rarely improve the atmosphere for any team, but I do think that this is only part of a much bigger problem, that is the type of people who go to games these days.

20 years ago a fair percentage of supporters were young males who made the intimidating atmosphere which made the games what we all remember them to be
Since the Taylor report clubs have tried more and more to make it a family day out for everybody to enjoy. I'm sure Cardiff City will be no different in trying to find new supporters to fill their ground from the Cardiff middle classes who spend more money in the club shop and who's children drink more coke from the many concourse counters pre match, all to the detriment of the atmosphere.

The problem is the more of these type of people you attract to the game, the more you deter the passionate hardcore fans that attracted people to attend in the first place.

Rant over, back to work!

I don't think hardcore fans will be discouraged from attending games, since they will want to support their team anyway.

Apart from the Taylor report, I guess there are business reasons for trying to portray a family image. The vocal hardcore supporters tend to stop attending matches once they have other responsibilities in their lives (e.g. having kids). Now, with things like family enclosure units, they are likely to return with their kids. Also, the hardcore vocal types are outnumbered by the non-hardcore and casual types, and a football club trying to fill its stadium has to create an atmosphere which is suitable for the majority.

Hardcore fans can still be vocal but things such as swearing, racism or homophobia are being stamped out.

Of all the games to be televised, I am glad this one is, because it will remove temptation to travel all the way to Wales. Beats last year when every televised game I was attending anyway.

I have a good friend who supports/ives in Cardiff, he's invited me out for a few beers before the game.

I'm still thinking about if I am going or not, travel is a nightmare, especially with the later kick off.
