Not sure if this is the right place, but I've noticed that he has just signed for a non-league side in order to 'regain his match fitness'.

Quite obviously wasn't good enough for us at this stage of his recuperation so hopefully the moaners will quieten down over this one...

Former West Ham defender Calum Davenport has signed for amateur United Counties League First Division side Wootton Blue Cross as he attempts to regain fitness and rebuild his career.

That's fair enough then. I'm still glad we gave him a go in the first place, the thread is pertinent as it shows some willing somewhere inside the club to get in players of proven high-level ability (if not fitness).
 
Leeds obviously thought he wasn't good enough or fit enough either then. not just us.
 
was there any message on the OS to say he will not be signing we feel it's not the right move etc...
 
No, but Davenport himself probably wants his current progress to be kept low-key.

This maybe the case, but it was pretty good bullshit as a lot of the content has suddenly appeared to come about... I'm keeping an open mind on this one!
 
You can't have a 24 bullet-point conversation on a 45 minute flight regarding incredibly contentious and sensitive information with a complete stranger to you.

There was never an official message on the OS to say we had him in on trial. I'd imagine we get a lot of players in on trial, but because Davenport is newsworthy, the NEP reported it.

It would be a bit unfair on Davenport to make the reason for not signing him public and could hamper his ability to find another club.

I maintain my earlier comments, I think the conversation took place and some of the information was accurate... There were just a few added bits to sensationalise it... IMO

If you had any kind of info like that why would you add more bullshit to make it seem more credible?

It was a shit flinging exercise of epic proportions - and if you fling enough shit of course some of it might be accurate - but down to pure guesswork and not any special inside knowledge.
 
I'd imagine Forest looked seriously at the player but realised he was not ready yet (if ever). His injuries were serious and would have resulted in massive blood vessel/muscle damage, with the associated scar tissue, which can sometimes prove impossible to overcome. If he can prove himself at a lower level, then maybe we'll look at him again. Trouble is, we (on this forum) are so desperate for signings, we're hanging our hats on every possible new player!

I'm pretty sure, though i only read through it once, the planegate thread starters opening sentance went something along the lines of "I know i've been a WUM in the past, but this really happened"

I might be wrong, there's been that much shit flying about this summer

Regarding Davenport, it was hardly that difficult to predict that he wouldn't be kept on.

Doughty had him escorted out of the club on the mere chance BD might have wanted to sign him! lol
