[BUPA] Gustavo Puerta

Colombian international midfielder, 23, currently at Racing Santander, the owner of which keeps fending off offers by other clubs insisting that the player will only leave with the €20m release clause. He is our main target for the midfield, and the money is too much for us, so initially everyone suspected that we can only get him through you. There are some rumours that, contrary to the other Gustavo (Gustavo Sá), you will not buy him for us, but we will buy him promising to him that he will be sold to you in the future for a reasonable price if you want him.

Thought he was really good at the World Cup, seen suggestions that Santander want the full €20m release clause for him though, can Oly afford to do that?

It sounds very quiet on this front. GustavOmerta, more like.

No, but supposedly we have offered 13 plus 2 in add-ons and we hope that the owner of Racing will not be too stubborn. The player is said to have declined an offer from Aston Vila, who might be willing to pay more to its club, because he wants to be a starter.

Let me know if you need someone to go there and start giving them some agro. I have a house only 10mins away (very nice part of Spain btw).

Strangely enough, we will immediately trigger the option to buy Jota Silva (the sum has not been disclosed), and the player will sign a long-term contract with us. Given that Carmo is technically on loan from you until January (when the obigation to buy for a reported 9m euros will be triggered), and Gustavo Sá is also on loan from you, I suspect that the change in Jota Silva's status is related to the need to allow for another loan (there's a limit of three loans from one team to another).
And I suspect Puerta will be this third loan.

I think the Puerta is closing on this one soon

Why don’t Olympiacos buy direct?

Hang on a second.

If Olympiacos triggered the release clause, and the player has already said he doesn't want to go there, then why would we now be looking at a buy-to-loan deal?

Players do have the right to refuse loan moves, so we could only ship him out to Olympiacos if he was willing to go - which indications are he's not. Yes, he could accept it on the basis that he'd end up back in the Premier League after the year was up, but really that means shit all as Carmo, Stamenic, etc can testify.

This whole transfer window of Olympiacos makes no sense to me whatsoever, so don't expect any meaningful reply to your valid questions.
Modern football makes no sense to me, at all.

I am just grateful when the various transfer windows "SLAM SHUT" so I can get on with watching players I know will be there for a few months, playing football.

Mentioned before I thought he stood out at the World Cup so pretty happy with him joining although I'm guessing it's not gonna be overly popular if we don't sign a CM ourselves in the next day and a half.

Surely makes sense to keep hold of him until deadline day in case we can't get another CM in...

Or let OG assess him.

The two most knowledgeable Olympiacos reporters insist that he will be bought by us and not by you. Whether there's some understanding under the table that he will be automatically be bought by you next season we cannot know, obviously, but for this season at least he will not count as one of the players you bought.

But now the consensus seems to be that you are the buyers. We'll see by the announcements, today or tomorrow.

The issue will be whether Forest are at their loan limit. We've got to move quite a few players out and a number of those might end up having to be loans. It wouldn't make sense for us to use a loan spot that we need to buy a player of Oly.
