Brice Samba

Can't Play Left-Back
Phew!
That means Forest fans will not be demanding Brice is recruited back to us for a little while!
He was good, with a big character.
But I think Sels is much better as a goalie, and we have other big characters in the dressing room now.
I'd love to have him back to have 2 genuine first choice keepers, but I think he's too erratic to be a number 2 and we'd be mad to drop Sels at the minute. Plus I think Milenkovic is the leader back there now and as Tommy Lee Jones said to Jim Carrey, I'm not sure the big Serb would "sanction his buffoonery".

If it ain't broke don't fix it

You don't swap out a key part of the third best defence in the Premier League because a goalie who was decent in the Championship three years ago becomes available
This. I love Brice, and I do think he's capable of playing in the Premier League.

But Matz Sels has been outstanding for us, and as you say is a key part of our success. We'd be foolish to try and replace him.

We sold him with a year left didn't we? Did we get a sell on?

Why would Lens sell him? That is a bizarre one

But the fact he is staying in France all but confirms he just wanted to live in France

RC Lens are a bit skint, as are many clubs in France after the shambles of Ligue Un‘s TV deal.

Brice Samba is a Forest legend and will always be welcome at the WFCG, but it's a fact that after all the messing around and money spent, we now have a superior goalkeeper in Matz Sels.

Fondly remembered, but no longer missed.
This.

I love Brice to bits and if you asked me at any point in those first two seasons in the Premier League if I would have had him back I would have said yes. But Matz has been absolutely incredible this season and Brice wouldn't get in the team ahead of him now.

I'm not knocking Selz by a long shot, but I'm under the belief that a goalkeeper is only as good as the defenders in front of him. I'd go to thr extent that Turner would be decent with murillo and Milenkovic in front of him.

Bit early for mind altering substances Harry! Tuner had at least one error a game in him, projected panic to the team and couldn’t kick for his life! Also think that milenkovc would have killed him within 3 or 4 games!

Yeah shrooms take a few hours to kick in best to take them early.

I'm not saying he would have been as good as sels just that he would have been better then he was. Look at Alison at liverscum when VVD was injured, he was mediocre, even the keeper at citeh made a few howlers, I think any keeper is crap if you need them to deal with too much pressure

Turner put pressure on himself with his dreadful kicking and shit yourself reaction after an error. Doesn't matter who is in front of you if you do that five times a season.

€15m is a good price for Brice. I’d be in at that.
I'm surprised no struggling premier league clubs went for him especially leicester , their main keeper is out, they are depending on their no.3 or 4 reserve polish keeper who hasn't play much for them since they signed him in 2021.

Do miss Samba, great keeper for us, still wish he stayed at the club. However, can understand going back to France for family reasons.
Never seen a more sucessful goal keeper wind up merchant. Just hope we do not play against him in the world cup, we all know how good at saving penalites he is.

thing is he wasn't in normal matches, for his career he is 7/39
He saved 3 for us before the shootout
1 from Adebayo v Luton in 21/22
1 from Adam Armstrong v Blackburn in 20/21
1 from Josh Windass v Wigan in 19/20

In that same period he let in 12

Yet as soon as we get in a shootout when it matters out comes the water bottle and he becomes prime seaman

A bit similar to Sels who did well in various shootouts last season but still hasn't saved a league penalty for us

And Ortega whose record is similarly bad but in the EL he didn't let any in because 2 hit the post and 1 was an attempt at a conversion...

Lee Camp was the last keeper we had who saved a fair amount and he was 16/60, but 6/8 for us (one of the ones he let in was v Bristol City scored by a certain Chris Wood) and before that probably Crossley

Crossley's record from penalties was sensational. Stats from that era are harder to find, but a few things I do remember...

Second keeper to save an FA Cup Final penalty after Beasant. Lost track of FA Cup Finals, but Henderson might have been the third? Be nice if that's the case, with them all being ex Forest.

Off the top of my head I can think of six penalties he saved against Spurs alone - three in the shootout in 96, one from Sheringham in 94/95, Neilsen in 98/99 and the one from Lineker in the cup final. Incidentally, I think that cup final penalty had a knock on effect of preventing Lineker from matching Charlton's England then goalscoring record. Lineker complained Crossley had gone early at Wembley after he scored a sort of Panenka against him in the League Cup SF the following season. As the Panenka had worked for him, he tried it again against Brazil at Wembley a few months later with the chance to tie the record and made a fool of himself.

He replaced Beasant in second half of our doomed 98/99 season in the PL and saved four penalties in a row - Charlton, Spurs, Sheff Wed and Blackburn. Didn't save us from relegation, but still brilliant.

Only keeper to save a Le Tissier penalty in 48 attempts. And has a block of flats named after him on the old Dell site for achievement.

Have always been convinced that had he been on the bench at Euro 96 (before he made himself available for Wales) and come off the bench for the shootouts, England would have won the tournament. Seaman got an MBE for his penalties "heroics" in that tournament but he actually only saved 2 out of 12. No team would have put six in a row past Crossley.
