If we're being picky when Des came back we weren't in the Championship either - used the current division namesJust to get in before @Eddie Yates , we weren't in the Premier League when Des left.
But he didn't come back, did f*** all and still of all of those players mentioned forest ended up in the top tier, in Europe and still there, I get the sentimentality but if Osborn was that good he would still have been around.. slate recruitment as much as you want, it wasn't just Steve Cooper that did it, he did a fantastic job don't get me wrong, but it wasn't like he took the dog and duck FC to promotion, it was a squad of good players along side.I've always said and still stand by it that I'd have definitely had Ben Osborn back. He'd have been a much better backup sub than players like Origi, Bentner, Lingard, etc.
The thing that people don't appreciate is that they they think of players like Ben Osborn coming back as in he's got to be a brilliant Premiership player and start every week, which isn't the case. What I wanted him back for was the fact that he's so versatile and so dependable that in one player you have someone who fills numerous sub/cup positions. So then the rest of the bench can be freed up significantly to have tactical sub positions as opposed to like-for-like sub positions that are just there for cover.
He's past his prime now and I don't think he's up to the job at this standard, but the early years that we were first in the Prem, I'd definitely had Osborne over of the players that we got instead such as Scarpa.
You seriously think Origi, Scarpa, Lingard and Bentner offered more than Osborn? But he didn't come back, did f*** all and still of all of those players mentioned forest ended up in the top tier, in Europe and still there, I get the sentimentality but if Osborn was that good he would still have been around.. slate recruitment as much as you want, it wasn't just Steve Cooper that did it, he did a fantastic job don't get me wrong, but it wasn't like he took the dog and duck FC to promotion, it was a squad of good players along side.
Too much thought is gone into tactics, there isn't a magic wand, it takes a team who believe in each other and the coaching staff to do it.. it's the football manager generation thinking it takes one mastermind and as you yourself said, gaming since the 00s has ruined people's brains onto simplistic thinking
I was meaning by this that these all could be argued to have been a success to some extent.I dont know how many players we have sold and bought again but a list of Birtles, Bowyer, Hodge, Walker, Reid and Dawson isnt too shabby.
He'd still be brilliant.I remember always hoping Duncan McKenzie would come back. Probably too late now…
Yeah but could Osborn solve a Rubics Cube, skateboard and lose millions to a crypto scam? I fail to see what he could have brought to the team!I've always said and still stand by it that I'd have definitely had Ben Osborn back. He'd have been a much better backup sub than players like Origi, Bentner, Lingard, etc.

STEVE COOPER.Seriously though, HOW DID WE STAY UP THAT FIRST YEAR?!?!?!
They never come back the same. Just like pet cemetery…Yes, and most of those who did come back weren't as good in their second spells. Recently the best exception to that was probably Reid but even then he ended up not played at all by Cotterill and then it wasn't that long until he basically ended up injured. Dawson was fine and brought a lot of experience to the side but likewise struggled with injuries and also not being an automatic choice at that time. I'm not sure how well we can compare Walker because when he came back we were in the championship and before he left we were in the PL, and he was also much older and IIRC had not had a club the season before, but he still played a part in a decent enough side for a couple of years.
What philosophy got Forest finally up and out of 2nd tier mediocre crap after how many years? Nostalgia or throwing the dice at players? I'm sure you would have loved Billeh in charge of Osborn, Tyler walker etc, but time and time again it didn't work. Unfortunately mate the recent history and facts prove that throwing the dice works, as that's what (not just) teams at the same level are doing but teams that are the best on the world right now.You seriously think Origi, Scarpa, Lingard and Bentner offered more than Osborn?
OK. I'm not going to try and change your mind.
I've never said I didn't. Why are you ranting off like I have? LolWhat philosophy got Forest finally up and out of 2nd tier mediocre crap after how many years? Do you think Man City, Bournemouth, Brighton, Arsenal etc are happy with every signing? Nope, do they harp back to players they wish would have made it? Yep, are they complaining now they are where they are? Nope
I know there's no arguing with you kenco bum so I won't botherI've never said I didn't. Why are you ranting off like I have? Lol
Wanting the odd player back for practical reasons doesn't mean I didn't want us to sign any other players.
And I'm not quite sure how to say this, but please tell me you have noticed that there has been some severe piss taking with some of my posts over the years, such as the Billy posts. Please tell me you didn't take them all seriously.
I know there's no arguing with you kenco bum so I won't botherI know some may read this as we are but it's more just our annual lovers tiff, we've done this for the best part of nearly 20 years

Coconut oil is the way to go.I have some vaseline left, if that helps? Happy to contribute?

I'm led to believe that Mr Clough tried to buy Duncan when he was at Leeds, Everton and Chelsea ( Duncan that is ) but Peter Taylor vetoed it because he didn't think Duncan was a "team player"I remember always hoping Duncan McKenzie would come back. Probably too late now…
I have Apple cider vinegar?Yeah.... I only use that on my Roast Potatoes, but hey, I'm willing to give it a go?!
