Brennan Johnson

He's still not learnt that in the Premier. League teams can't and won't carry passengers. Great instinct at sniffing out a chance and good finisher, but the rest of the time he offers next to nothing to a team.
 
Johnno was most effective running on to a throughball breaking the offside trap and putting it in the net when he didn't have time to think.

MGW created those opportunities, a bit like Elanga looking a shadow of the player at Newcastle.

It could still work here but I think we have moved on and are looking at whatever Glasner wants to implement.

Yeah I don't see any world where Glasner would want him here. I think he could resurrect his career here but I don't think it will happen.

I think Johnson has got far more in his locker and still far more potential than N'Doye ever will have, but I'm happy to be proven wrong.
 
I think NDoye will become the player we thought we had purchased this season under Glasner, I don’t want Johnson and his Dad back at the club unless he is going to be sold on the cheap
 
Think the concern for Johnson is that his form isn’t just linked to the influence/tactics of one manager it is now 2 clubs, different managers and also lost his place in the Welsh squad. Fingers crossed he can rediscover form but likely we are looking at players on the way up, better than we have. If he didn’t have previous links to us, he wouldn’t be in anyone discussions.
 
Whilst there is some sense of nostalgia because both him and his dad played for Forest, if you took that out of the equation I don't think there would be any interest in him whatsoever. We've moved on and need better players for where we want to be.
 
I do think N'Doye is similar to Brennan in a lot of ways, he's looked poor whenever he's been played as an out and out winger, he isn't particularly great at taking on defenders and crossing, but I think he could do well in a system where he's used more as a second striker/inside forward where he's making runs into the box and getting on the end of low crosses and running onto through balls. He was very unlucky not to get that goal against Fulham, that 20 minute cameo was probably his best performance in a Forest shirt. As for Brennan I think he could do with a fresh start somewhere, maybe to the Bundesliga or somewhere like that just to get him going again.

He started their last international 🤷‍♂️ He was rested for the first of their summer friendlies and the friendly against Northern Ireland after they got knocked out of the world cup that was all.
 
If I was offered one of Brennan vs Ndoye then it's Brennan every day and twice on a Sunday. And it's not like he's set the world alight over the past few years but that just shows how bad Ndoye was last season.

For what it's worth I don't think either would be suited to how Glasner will want to set up.

Feel bad for Brennan, was absolute key for us in the season we went up, was also essential in the first year in the Prem, got us a massive amount of money to help with FFP, then went to Spurs and was their top scorer, and scored the goal to win the final in their Europa League, ever since then he has been criminally mismanaged, shipped off to Palace who I think didn't know what they were signing and didn't know how to use him.

Now with all the manager changes, he's at Palace with a manager who probably wont play him, he strikes me as a player who will be swallowed up by a lack of confidence. Hopefully he can get a good move, and still have a strong career, as he is a Forest academy lads who I'd love to see succeed.
 
I hope not as he said before the Spurs move that "It was the right time for Brennan and the right time for the club" which seemed fair and about right to me too.
 
It wasn't really the Spurs move that made me think his dad is a twat, it was more him whoring Brennan out to every club that'll give him attention for the 3 years prior. Every other month he was popping up at Brentford, thankfully we never folded to the pressure they put on trying to sign him which was always encouraged by his agent (his dad).

I just think it was the next step to be honest, some players are an average PL player, some are good and some are great.

I don't think Brennan's weaknesses allow him to make the jump up a category - and the better level you play, the more it gets exposed.

He didn't get much scrutiny for his all round game here because a) he was amongst our better players, b) he had credit in the bank & c) we were happy for him to develop.

Those rules probably don't apply at the clubs he signed for, or even here now. I compare him to Ndoye, and the criticism he gets is just stuff that people say about Brennan. I think if he had stayed, we would have been looking to upgrade him/already had.

People forget we dropped him for key games at the end of that 1st season, simply because we couldn't carry his lack of all round game. We definitely sold at the perfect time imo.

As a father myself I have no issue with David Johnson trying to get the best possible outcome for his son.

At the time many scoffed about the Brentford rumours because of who they are as a club relative to us, but recent history has shown it's a good move for younger players to make and if they were offering more dough then I get it. I bet last season a couple of our new signings wish they'd signed for a nice, stable club like Brentford over us.

Thats fine, especially if his father is now willing to take accountability for where his career has ended up.
