Brendan Is In Contention

Billy Davies has confirmed that Brendan Moloney is in his thinking for the vacant right back berth at Reading tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).

The Nottingham Forest boss will be unable to call upon Chris Gunter for the game at The Madejski Stadium as he starts a ban.

And Davies has revealed that Moloney is vying with Luke Chambers for the job of deputising for the Welsh international this weekend.

He said: "Brendan is a little bit further back in terms of fitness and sharpness but he has to come into the equation as an option for right back along with Luke.

"We'll get lots of suspensions and injuries over the course of the season but we've just got to deal with them and get on with it."

Gunter has accepted the FA's offer of a three match ban after being charged with violent conduct following an incident in last Sunday's draw with Leeds.

He joins striker David McGoldrick on the sidelines - McGoldrick is still recovering from pre-season shoulder surgery - but Davies has no other fitness issues to deal with ahead of the trip to Berkshire.

I sort of hope he gets a chance, though he might be lacking fitness, there's a bit of a lack of opportunities for the youngsters, and for a club that supposedly has a strong youth set up, it seems about time that changed.

If Moloney isn't as fit or sharp for tomorrow as Chambers then the latter will probably be played. Remember it is a 3 game absence for Gunter so Moloney could well get a chance in another of the games.

Hope Maloney plays he's a much more natural right back than chambers IMO. Reckon it will be chambers though.

Yeah I'd also like to see Maloney given a chance. Chambo never really looks comfortable at right back, he's far, far better at centre back.

Chambers looked fine there on the ocassions he played there last season, much improved on the previous season.

Neither of these options are a patch on Gunter

Oh good god no! Ive only ever seen him on a few occasions and he looked way out of his depth everytime! Moght have improveed though coz ive not seen hyim in action for a while!

Don't recall him playing much at rightback at all, but at centreback he was unlucky to be displaced by Kelv at the start of the season and certain did okay when called upon to stand in.

He played at right-back a few times in the latter stages of the season and looked pretty solid there and had he played there in the play-offs instead of Perch I'm sure we would have won the tie.

Not his best position but one he can fill in when needed perfectly well in my opinion.
