Bowery scores!

For the older ones amongst us this will sound a little familiar. Just been looking at the BBC vidiprinter and Bowery scored 90+1 for Chesterfield, and yes its Berts son! who is a young striker. There are a few 'old boys up there. Lester, Breckin, Big Norm etc......

Bless him, poor old Bert didn't score many for us but then I don't think he played many games did he?

I saw him play once, in 1976 I think.

According to wiki he played twice and scored 2 goals. What did he do wrong?

As far as I'am aware it was a personal decision of Bert not to be ' in the big time' I think he lives in Arnold? or he did as I have'nt seen him in a while. The 2 goals were on his debut.

I watched him on video earlier today. Just hearing the name made me smile.

Ahh yes, Chesterfield.
Sheridan is the manager and Norm the goalkeeping coach.
Two members of their first team are earning £200 a week.
Maverick made me write that down when I was at the Approach.

This is true!

I saw Bert Bowery score two goals at Blackburn, I'm sure. I will check my scrapbook.

Skipped night school at college, went down to Peterborough in the cold wind and rain, to see Forest beaten in an FA Cup 3rd round replay, Bowery stood on the ball instead of poking home a simple goal, not saying he was a big lad or it was a big stamp, but I still swear blind the ball went out of shape under his foot.

Early seventies ?

Swear I used to go primary and junior school with him, if I'm right, you cold always tell then that he was very good.

I did see the name come up. And smiled to myself. But didnt say anything as no one would have known what I was talkin about. Cant believe he is related.

Yeah, I saw the other game in which he didn't score.

I would like to check out the record books for myself.
I am sure I saw Bert Bowery play a number of games in the 70s.
Are people certain he only played twice?

7 January 1976 sedge.
The 1st time I ever saw Forest play (on tv over here they used to run a show called The Road To Wembley) and became a fan was the game on New year's Day 0-0 that led to that replay.

In classic Forest news today...

Graeme Le Saux was on 5Live with Danny Baker. Said he used to tape his socks up like John Robertson because Robertson was his boyhood hero.

Gary Imlach, presenting the ITV4's coverage of Vuelta a Espana, is the son of Stewart Imlach who played in Forest 1959 FA Cup winning side.
