The unfortunate thing is tonight, this result is not a shock, maybe on paper it should be a Forest win, but so many times we fail in this situation.

I am not panicking after two defeats early doors in a season, but when you take the last win on opponents soil was January, something is dreadfully wrong with the heart of the side.

Why and what the problem is, I wish I had the answer, but tonight was to be brutal.... expected. Why do Forest seem to lack bottle when on the road ?

I'm not sure. Seems to be the same problem that Reading had last season with playing at home. Hopefully this is just a 'Billy Davies Slow Start'...
 
I'll give you a clue:

- Makeshift back four (one of which was a midfielder, one of which isn't fit)
- Weak central midfield (Thornhill hasn't played for us in ages, McGugan in a 3 man midfield is guaranteed exposure)
- Tyson up front on his own (Can't score.)

Not worried yet though. We need 3 or 4 players still but still 3 weeks to go until we can't permanently sign anyone. We can loan past that too.
 
To solve this bottle issue, we need a box to box midfielder and a tricky left winger (Pratley and Whittingham anyone!)
 
Get players and give me something to cheer about.


If we couldn't defeat Leeds this weekend, expect gloomy clouds to gather above everyone's head.
 
Weve lost the gritty determintion that we used to have, where wed grind out a result, nor conceding possesion at all, let alone sloppy goals.
 
I think i'm going to open a bottle after listening to this game and the BD interview after....! :panthers:

What? every away game since WBA away mid-January
 
Sedge, we haven't got the quality to put teams to the sword when we are on top.

It's all rosy at home when there's 20k plus Forest fans cheering them on, but it's just not there away. This is essentially the same team who finished third last season, but was that finish in spite of our away form, rather than because of our home form?

It's worrying and I just can't put my finger on it. I think we need someone who is absolutely clinical in front of goal. Blackstock isn't that player I'm afraid.

I dunno, it's early doors this season but this is a trend that hasn't been shaken since the start of January
 
We've always had our fair share of passenger type players since I can remember.

It's about time we stop waiting for McGugan to fulfill his promise - he won't.

And while we are at it - let's stop putting mediocre players on a pedestal like Moussi (who isn't actually a very good footballer) and "der der der" Nathan Tyson. He seems a great guy but it's time to get rid.

McGugan played well for most of the game. He put Tyson through on goal and seemed to be doing a bit of defending too. I agree with you about Moussi and Tyson though.
 
Sam, welcome to the forum. But it's not really about Bradford. This game highlights the absolute lack of quality depth we really have in our squad.

I've seen McGugan play up to the level he is capable of about 10% of the games I've seen him in. He needs to flip that around so he plays at his true potential level 90% of the time. Until then he is a luxury we can do without.

In answer to the question posed by this thread - The sad truth is we only have a very good starting 11. The players we have in reserve can come in and do a job if it is only the odd player here or there because the remaining 10 players can cover up the lack of quality replacement. However, when (like tonight), you get 6 or 7 of these players coming in then we are seriously lacking. Even against a middling to good league 2 side. Very sad really.

Some of the football we played was a joy to watch, patient passing stuff which he stuck with rather than revert to long ball which you did when Dele Adebola came on. You played some very good stuff but came up against a very solid team tonight, the key word being team

Sad to say but some of your players don't look up for a fight, which is what you are going to get in a cup game and even more so in a promotion campaign

Maybe because we don't care about Bradford and are just talking about our team?

We need a new striker, someone who can partner Earnie and also stick the ball in the back of net regularly, Blackstock is very average, Adebola flounders and concedes free-kicks.

Unless we strengthen then we can just look forward to an aimless midtable position :(

The annoying thing is, like others have mentioned our best 11 players really are very, very good as a team. Blackstock works well with Earnie, don't get me wrong, but he can't seem to create for himself and we don't have the resources (set piece taker) to put the ball on a plate for him.

It's a simple solution to such an annoying problem, but it's one that we've struggled with for a long time: the acquisition of a number of quality, squad-enhancing players.
 
I think it doesn't help with BD's constant gloomyness! All he ever says is the squad is not good enough, we need more players, player's attitude's aren't right, they aren't giving enough, it's his job to right out, not coming out moaning about it... can't be good for morale when even your manager seems to have no belief in your team.

Ah Davies, I have had a small nagging doubt growing in mind since Blackpool easily and deservedly got the better of us, in the Play-Off's. I hate the constant formation shifting that seems to be happening. Platt was a constant menace, Calderwood another who allowed the ability of the team to overcome his book of tactics and change...just.

Now we have BD swopping and changing formations during a match.

Now yes we may be reacting to the situation on the field, but why allow that to happen. Does he know his players by now....18 moths not long enough for him to know where his team are likely to perform the best. I cannot imagine anything more confidence sapping for a side than being prepared to play one formation, no doubt keyed up before kick off, then 30 mins in...Oh we were wrong play these positions and formation now. Oh now we will send on the big men....change formation and style again.

What a boost for the opposition manager, to me speaks of uncertanty before kick off on behalf of BD. This is transfered to the players, confusion reigns, defeat follows.
