Boro release trio..

Gary

No wonder my post count..
Think any spoils are there to be kept?

Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan has told Mido, Marvin Emnes and Didier Digard they will not be part of his 25-man squad for the forthcoming season.

The trio returned to pre-season training this summer but Strachan has revealed the players are surplus to requirements at the Riverside.

"They'll not be playing here next year," Strachan told BBC Tees.

Have I missed something here? I though 25 man squads only applied to the Premiership?

Mido makes Kris Commons look anorexic.

13.2m and relegation... nice! I take it they couldn't sell them then?

My mate is a smoggy he says ......

Digard - injury prone, not suited to English football.
Emnes - one trick pony, all whistles no bells.
Mido - Fat and lazy, you'd have to pay someone to take him.

Who would buy them?

I may have taken Digard a few years ago, but he now like Mido is a useless crock of ****. Emnes was never any good - £3.2m? Jesus.

In return I give you;
Moussi - £300k.
Earnshaw - £2.5m
Blackstock - £1.2m

Would you swap any of the above three for any of Middlesbrough's released 3? No? Surprised that the total cost is £10m less?

Anyone wanting rid of the AP take note.

Again from my smoggy mate.

These players are being let go as they are deadwood from the Southgate days, Strachen has brought in decent replacements and getting rid of them will cut the wage bill considerably, lets face it, none of them exactly set the championship alight last year.

mido looks like he's playing with a fag and a cup of tea at his prime, hate to think what state he'll be in returning for a new season

Does anyone else think that if you want to offload some of your players, stating publicly that they aren't good enough to get into the squad of a mid table championship side isn't the best tactic to raise money for them? I'm also not good enough to make it into Boro's 25 man squad, and I have a similar body shape to Mido, but I can't see any side offering me 50k a week on a three year contract any time soon.

I might be a fat old git, but I have my dignity.

Plus I have never played for Burton Albion.

To be fair I think it is all a question of motivation and I believe with the right manager each of these players could be good again. Mido can be a class act on his day despite his obvious flaws and I personally disagree that these guys aren't good enough. They all just need the right club and the right manager to get their careers back on track again.

If everybody remembers rightly, the "deadwood" from the Southgate era had them sat in second place in the Championship and just a point or so off the top when Southgate was axed.

The real deadwood at that club is Strachan and I doubt bringing a few SPL rejects (with the exception of Boyd who I think could potentially be very dangerous this year) to the Championship is going to change them too much. Playoffs at best for them methinks.

still here...
You're right about Boro. Not sure why they're being backed to win the league this time around because, as you say, the additions to the squad have been a bit 'who?' (with the exception of Boyd).

The bookies have them as favourites because they're the only side to spend heavy this summer - no matter that the players brought in are crap.
