I'm no fan of the TAP, and i'm disappointed that we haven't signed anyone.

But I am happy that our club is well run, our chairman does care about the club, and he is not willing to flutter away money to put us in a problematic position down the line.

I REALLY hope that there isn't a "backlash" against Millwall. Because at the end of the day, we sopmetimes should be a little more grateful of the position we are in.

Last season was great, keep the faith and good things will come Forest's way.
 
I suppose the thing to do is reserve judgement, if we get to the end of September and we're still not playing well, or gods forbid we've still not picked up 3 points, then we might have cause for concern.
 
Good post squire, I like the content... I'm not overly fussed about who we have/haven't signed as I expecting a little better in the loan market once these squads of 25 are announced... I bet a fair few talented players come available on loan and if Forest can utilise this till Christmas at least with the players club stumping up most of the wages, then we should take advantage as and when we can...

I worry that people assume that 'most' people feel like them simply because it tends to be the most vociferous that complain.

The squad we already have should be more than capable of playing well and winning a few games. If that's not happening then the focus should be more on the manager, coaching staff and players rather than the lack of signings.

I am as disappointed as most about our failure to strengthen, but am maybe a bit more realistic than some as to what level of expenditure should be expected. If we challenge at the top of the table and come up short again then that could be put down to our failure to strengthen. However, if we continue to struggle then that is down to our current staff under performing, which is a separate issue and shouldn't be overlooked.
 
I think some fans really need to taste a drop of the old reality juice, it helps keeping a level head... The days of suicidal spending are over. Strangely enough Forest have been ahead of the game in terms of finances/wage caps and demands from players. Although we have felt the pain I honestly feel this is the right way to go about business and when the football bubble finally bursts, which it will, Forest will be one of very few teams who are ahead of the game... I can't see the point in wasting millions of pounds on players who are just as good as we have for them to sit on the bench... We need to strengthen the squad not enlarge it... There is little point in having million pound players sitting on the bench getting fustrated, afterall you can only field 11 players.

For a 100 years teams coped with 14 players in a squad, why should we now need thirty just to satisfy the masses? We can't field 30, hey we wont be able to name more than 25 if we reached the premiership... Despite all the bollocks on the other forums, we obviously had targets and quite clearly the demands from the clubs for them targets were bordering extortion. Why should the club be held to ransom, more worryingly, why are the fans demanding this...

The transfer window was quiet for most teams, you have the likes of Cardiff who are purchasing everyone on the Never, never, Portsmouth who sold their silver to bring in a few players to bulk up their squad and a few other championship teams who purchased cheap lower league players or experienced over the hill players to get them through the season. Apart from this I cannot identify any team who have brought a real quality purchase at a sensible price.

The loan window will open and I think there will be some top quality players available for loan and maybe with an agreement to buy... Let the other clubs jump the gun and stretch themselves, we maybe in a fortunate position to capitalise on the ones they missed out.... Time to have faith in the board rather than constantly criticise it...

The game's very different now, played at a much higher tempo, more tactical and thanks to the boots/pitch combo the players are more susceptible to injury.

At last we have a poster with some brains...if i could have been arsed i would have posted similar...Some decent loan players in and the opportunity to finally get those 2 sheep botherers at sensible cash in January...The constant over reaction is pathetic...and as for the ***** who add comments on the fb Billy page....Who is Dougherty?

Great post Dan. I think it's how the realistic fans are feeling at present. The knee-jerkers are throwing their toys out of the pram.
 
I'm not demanding the club be held to ransom, I'm not even demanding they spend money. I just want their stated aims to be backed up by their actions for once.

I'm also annoyed that we've gone into a season with a small squad, with gaping holes again.

Very good post. I agree there is no need for a squad bigger than 25 players, and I hope your prediction about us exploiting the loan market is accurate (although realistically we will be waiting until October to sign anyone).

However, the real point I can no longer agree with, although I used to until very recently, is 'when the football bubble finally bursts, which it will'. Will it? How do you know? It hasnt so far, so what makes you so sure that this is going to change. People have been saying that ever since the SKY revolution hit football and it hasnt happened yet. The very worst case scenario is that the Premier League goes through the kind of 'burst bubble' that Italian football went through. And the very worst that happened there is Fiorentina went out of business, started the next day in the bottom league, and 4 years later were back in the top league. This idea that football clubs are businesses like any other is a complete myth. They are not for a whole host of reasons. The main one being they dont exist to make a profit. There is always someone willing to pump more money into another club to acheive success on the pitch, leaving the 'sensible' clubs behind. Cardiff are the prime example this season. In 150 years no club of a decent size has ever folded, and it wont happen. Look at Portsmouth.. how worse could it get? Yet they will survive, maybe in the league below and then rebuild, but in a few years who will know the difference. Look at Leeds, who could even be back in the Premier League next season.
The idea that the irresponsible spenders will get their just deserts in the end is a bit like the Christian idea that sinners will get their punishment after death. It's always in the future, and it's a myth.

the trouble is the clubs are losing young fans there was a report out that stated the average age of fans at games was 40 odd.these were the real fans as well not corporates and this was due to ticket pricing being put up to accommodate the corporates.The children and younger adults could not afford to go,use this along with other factors like other sports,computers and most of all sky and you have no new fans coming in and no core support when the corporates go there then will be no clubs.Short term gain for the clubs who cannot see the long term failings

Good points well made Ravi, although I think the christian view as you put it wasn't quite what I was thinking, more that clubs are acting like 18 year olds inexperienced to the wise world of finance suddenly given credit cards with limits they will spend half of their lives paying back... Short term it's lots of fun but the long term pain will be felt for years.....

Pineapplehead makes another good point and it's correct, smaller championship and lower league clubs are finding their attendances increasing as the expense of watching premiership football increases the average family are being priced out

Good point pineapplehead.

The big problem with Sky is that they don't really give a toss about anything other than the Premier League (and then, really only certain clubs within that!)

I'm 41, and "when I were a lad" growing up, I started following Forest as they were my local team.

Nowadays, today's impressionable youth will "follow" whoever Sky tell them is good.
