Nottingham Forest have ended their search for a striker by swooping for Queens Park Rangers forward Dexter Blackstock.
The 22 year old has been on Forest's radar for some weeks but hopes of clinching a loan deal for him looked to be fading.
But only hours before today's closing of the loan window Forest man Billy Davies got his man.
Blackstock has signed for the remainder of the season and Rangers have no recall on the player in that time.
Forest have also agreed an undisclosed loan fee with the Londoners.
Blackstock signed for Rangers from Southampton in a £2.75m deal in August 2006.
The former England under-21 striker has scored 32 goals in 94 starts during his time at Loftus Road.
Blackstock started his career with Oxford, where he was born, but joined Southampton before making his debut.
BILLY Davies today predicted Dexter Blackstock will score crucial goals for Nottingham Forest, after landing the striker on loan.
The Reds today agreed a last-ditch deal with QPR to bring Blackstock to the City Ground until the end of the season.
It is believed the two clubs have also agreed a potential future fee for the 22-year-old, if he impresses – and helps to keep Forest up in the final six games.
"I'm sure he will prove to be a great acquisition," said manager Davies.
"It is no secret that we have been looking for a certain type of striker and Dexter fits the bill.
"Dexter is a player we have had great interest in for several seasons, he has all the attributes of a top striker.
"Most importantly he scores goals, but he has also got presence and good movement in his play.
"In addition to scoring goals himself I am sure he will provide plenty of openings for others."
Blackstock has scored 12 goals for QPR this season, but has been stalling over the offer of a new contract.
It had seemed unlikely that the player would join Forest before the summer, with Blackstock concerned about the prospect of the Reds losing their fight against relegation and QPR unwilling to let him move unless a permanent move was agreed.
Yeah, he can be recalled after the Barnsley game.Benchwarmer said:Its good how they opted for the "no recall" for this deal - also shows the ambition of the board to pay a loan fee too.
I seem to remember that McSheffrey can be recalled at any point after the ?first 28 days.
Brolin said:I do rate McSheffrey as a player, but seeing as how we can only field a certain amount of loan players at a time, I wouldn't be surprised if Barnsley was to be his last game for the club.
