Right yesterdays performance highlighted for me a growing cringeworthy effect at the City Ground, not just on the pitch either.
I am older than the vast majority on here, thus along with others have witnessed the changes that football in general has evolved with, old stadiums with character and pride, but facilities that threat the paying punters little better than a cattle market are things of the past, or will be eventually bearing in mind the trips to Chesterfield
etc.
Todays modern Stadiums though are the pinnacle of souless rows of seating, sterile bowls of either empty seats or mindless humanity waiting to respond to false promptings from the PA system. Oh when I have visited PP, the enormous pride I have felt being a Forest fan, born in a City for all it's well publicised problems has a fan base with a mind of it's own.
Not for us a silly song to run out to, sounds like it was written at the time when Telly's were Black and White and a good film on the box after Star Soccer was the staple Sunday afternoon. Not for us the Americanised false drummer, trying to lead some orchestrated atmosphere. We are from Nottingham, we are awkward, loyal, demanding fans, but we are Independent. We respond when and how we want. We like to think of ourselves as original, many of ditties and songs I have heard over the years has always bought a smile to my face..............We reward the team with applause and enthusiasm when we are pleased, we reserve the right to throw hero worship out of the window and let the same team know the displeasure we feel........................We are from Nottingham, we know our own minds and feelings at any particular time during the game.
I hate this growing PA crowd control, playing music when we score, the Band to Play Mull Of Kintyre, as the teams came out. Every thing to try and whip up a controlled atmosphere. These pathetic practises were highlighted for me yesterday when Ernie scored..............It was frankly embarrassing
Can some one ( This is where I pass the bullet ), We have our media whores with contacts, organise via the media or direct contact with the club, some kind of petition across the other web sites to ask the club to tone this down, or even forget all about it. I do feel the best way to generate atmosphere within the ground is leave it to the fans, come on Forest we are a club of firsts, lets be the first to ditch this type of crap and bring back a bit of reality to the ground.............as the fans gather, the atmosphere will build up on it's own........this will carry on into the game.....I feel this will actually encourage our younger more vocal fans to get started and the rest of us older ones to occasionally join in with the choir.
Am I yearning for something that is not there, or does this seem feasible ?
