Billy's Interview with STV

Interesting. It's not as bad as I thought it would be to be honest.

He said he could consider any club, after being asked if he wouldn't manage Celtic because he is a Rangers boy. He said that was rubbish, he is a professional, fair enough.

Didn't like the way he named his adviser lol, just in case people didn't know it was Jim Price, they now know how to contact him. That and he said he would consider any formal approach by another team, as long as they sorted out compensation for Forest.

Billy Davies looks after Billy Davies, we know that.

We will find out what's going to happen after this meeting of course. To be honest I think it's a matter of wether or not he thinks the club will push on from this position now and really go for the promotion to the Premier League, if we give him the backing that is required for us to get promoted then I think he will stay, if the board say in this meeting that they wont invest in players which I doubt they will say then that will have made his mind up and if another club comes in such as Celtic he will be gone.

I want him to stay, I can't see him going, I love Billy Davies.

There's already a thread about this interview somewhere.

1st time watching it and it's not that bad but the last bit could be something to worry about

Thats the first time I have seen that. I don't see much wrong with it, he keeps saysing "we" when refering to Forest.
The last minute or so is just him keeping his options open for years to come. Makes no difference if he mentioned his lawyers name or not

He's annoyed about January, he believes it cost us promotion and he's right, it did.

Just like the rumoured interest it's all talk.

Keeps the board on their toes and also opens up invites for official approaches from clubs that would provide that move BD wants.

in a way he also engineered our play off heartache. by playing a weakend side in the league game and loosing 3-1 it put blackpool on a run , if we had drawn or beaten them we would of played swansea, and I couldnt see them scoring 6 goals.

all water under bridge now and new season to look foward to, think hes leanrt alot this season

I don't buy this at all. If we had signed a LB we might have been stronger in the second half of the season, but would we have been 12 points bettter? Probably not.

If you look at our players in comparison to those of Blackpool, how many of their players would you put in our team? Possibly Charlie Adam and maybe Seamus Coleman, although he's not actually theirs and Gunter is one of our better players. We could have strengthened our squad, but with the tactics, team selections and loss of confidence that seeped through the club as the season ended I don't think it would have made any difference.

It isn't just that though - sometimes, the arrival of a new player, or players, can buck-up the whole team.

Look at the impact Nicky Shorey had when he arrived on loan. And compare that to what happened when he had left us.

I firmly believe if we had made one or two quality signings in January, we would have pipped WBA to the second automatic place.

And, I think, so does Billy Davies!

Definitely, 6 points ahead of WB all guns blazing, both Newcastle and WB strengthen teams, we actually weakened ours and finished 3rd, so its no surprise we were goint to stutter.

January just showed Doughty has not an onze of ambiton for this football club at all.

Dare I say this, could promotion have been more detrimental to this club?

Also, who's to say we would've faired better in signing players we chased? Who's to say we would have had a better away record the second half of the season. Our home form was second to none, we just lost it with our away form. Why? Was it just down to nerves and after that first defeat away, our inexperienced player lost their nerve...

Personally I can't say without certainty we would have been promoted had we signed X in January, yes we may have faired a bit better but Newcastle and West Brom pretty much had a premiership line up and we had a very inexperienced team who were still finding their feet.

We did not get promoted for many reasons, most of which could simply be due to the fact it was not our time. I am pleased we did not get promoted, another year in this league will not do us any harm at all and I think it will strengthen the character of our younger squad members :)

Promotion this year though is on the cards and I think we will do it.

And so what did last summer show?

All last summer was assembling a squad that could compete at this level because the previous one was so threadbare and inexperienced, doesn't mean he has ambition.

The fact is because of his refusal to back Billy in January we have just thrown away our best chance of promotion in over a decade. This is unforgivable in my eyes.

Billy knows what he is doing, Putting himself in the shop window has put pressure on the Forest board to give him more support and I bet it has put pressure on the AP to perform. The AP works well in the close season as they have plenty of time to sort things out, With January the AP has for many seasons been to slow to get players in with the time restraints against them, hopefully the pressure BD has put on them will change this for the upcoming season.

Getting rid of the kerb crawler would be a bonus...

If we had a left-back we would all be happily anticipating the play-off final tomorrow because Perch wouldn't have been in the team to make his errors which cost us the tie.

And if that had happened it would only have been papering over the cracks. Perch made the crucial individual errors that cost us, but we got comprehensively outplayed by Blackpool. Despite us supposedly having better players in almost every position.

So he showed ambition to improve the club then? Improving the squad to the tune of nine or ten players with millions of pounds that have pretty much been sourced from his own pocket, bringing us up by about 18 league places - sounds like ambition to me.

We've improved our league position for the past four seasons now and Doughty has backed us one way or another every season. Almost all clubs outside the Premiership (and some in it) would kill to have an owner like ours. It's easy to say someone should spend a few more pounds when it's not your money.

If there are other, more ambitious, wealthy businessmen who have more of their heart in the club than Nigel Doughty, then maybe you should ask them to make him an offer.

I'm not saying I didn't want us to sign someone in January and that it wouldn't have improved our chances of promotion, but we did bid real money for players. It'd have been crazy to spend the asking price of £4m on Pratley and once word got out it would have been dangerous for future transfers.

Furthermore, I expect Doughty to back us again this summer. We'll be among the top spenders in the division.

The signings in the summer were not all sourced from his pocket; the increase in revenue from playing in the Championship rather than League One is largely responsible.

He has backed us yes, but not sufficiently for this club to fulfil its potential. I'm not stupid enough to call for his removal but it doesn't mean I have to like the way he runs the club.

I agree spending £4m on Pratley would have been insane so why target an unrealistic player? We wouldn't have sold Cohen to Swansea for the money we were bidding. Just because we put bids in for players who were out of reach doesn't mean he had any intention of spending.

I agree we will probably spend again this summer but we need to do it in January to maintain any momentum we may have gained so the season doesn't tail off again.

The fact is it doesn't matter how much money Doughty has invested, for the 11 years he has been involved with us apart from two seasons we have been married to struggle & mediocrity. As owner this is his responsibility.
