Billy would let top players leave

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies will not stand in the way of one of his players if a top Premier League club comes calling in January.
However, the Scot insists he is not encouraging interest in his stars and is trying to assemble a group of players that will hopefully soon play in the top flight with the Reds.
"If there are enquiries from big clubs then that`s a good sign for me. The one thing we won`t stop is top Premier League clubs coming in and taking the players," said Davies.
"If one of the top four or top six wanted to take some of our players then it shows we are obviously doing something right here and getting some success on the pitch.
"Obviously, it something we don`t encourage greatly because we are trying to develop our team for the future but sometimes that`s the way it is. And ultimately playing at the top level is what it`s all about."

Not sure I agree with him here..the only thing he should worry about is the future of NFFC..players personal goals come 2nd

Why has BD come out with this nonsense?

It's not encouraging! All it will do is create a new breed of Billy Big-Bollocks' like when we had Junior "2 good games at the African Cup of Nations" Agogo and Grant "I'm in the shop window" Holt. Totally unhelpful.

BD? BS morelike.

I agree with a lot of things Billy does and says but this I can't . I know he plays mind games but i'm not sure what he is try to achieve here. What does it tell our squad of players? If you want to play at the top level your going to have to leave NFFC?

Bare in mind here he is ruling out selling our top players to clubs outside the top 6....

And lets be real, none of our players are good enough for top 6.

No-where near but why come out and say it?

That is certainly how it seems isn't it!

What he means is that he'd sell Jules for fifteen million then buy Ashley Cole for fourpence.

Notice there how familiar I am with the players - 'Jules' is a mate of mine. We play carpet bowls together. The rest of you had better call him Sir.

:hey:

look in the "postings in here" thread

very mature for a 12 year old :hey:

To be honest I think it's reporters being reporters again. They had an interview with him and took the most sentaionalist part out of said interview and made it a huge headline to try to attract the interest of other people.

Totally agree. What's more, who the bloody hell in the top 6 would want any of our mugs? I dare say Majewski is the only player worth looking at, and he's not even ours.

Since we're playing well, I can dismiss his daft outbursts. If we were down the bottom though, I think we'd all be singing a different tune and he'd be getting right on our wick.

If you read the parts in "quote" marks which is presumably the words Billy used then he not really saying what the first paragraph is saying which are the journalist's words.

Billy is simply saying that if Prem clubs call then it is difficult to stop a player leaving; and if you succeed the player will be demotivated.

Also maybe reverse psychology? Sometimes the best way to stop a person doing something is to say it's OK to do it.......maybe.

Oh Jesus Christ, more reactionary over-thinking and bollocks again :(

Brian Clough always maintained that if a player isn't happy and wants to leave, you let him go. Davies is agreeing with him. And they are both right.

Do you ladies honestly think that he's going to sign anyone who just sees us as a shop window? Really, after everything he has said, done and shown so far in terms of building a team steadily, attracting the right personalities and attitudes?

Besides which, how many players have left Forest since he came? Breckin, and...?

If, as is almost certainly the case, the inevitable question has been posed to him in an interview "So are you worried about top flight teams poaching your players now that you are doing well?" I congratulate Billy Davies on a well handled answer. He's not out to play mind games, piss on his chips or anything else, he's just stating a fact, or 'telling it like it is' to borrow a very modern and boorish term.

If anyone really does have a problem with him doing this, I suggest you gird your loins because as with most of the answers Davies gives in interviews, he'll be repeating it every time the question is asked for the foreseeable future. Thank god we've got a manager who isn't manipulated into saying all kinds of shit by having the same dull questions thrown at him week after week.

so he has rulled out selling his players to a top 6 club, but has said he will listen to offers in january if they come for any of our top players.

he has also said he doesnt look at tables untill january, we are currently sat In a great position and many of our players are on long deals so couldnt leave without the club agreeing a fee with another club.

to me this is about motivating the players that are driven by the big 6 dream if they up there gam eneugh to atract attention theres a chance they could leave just like jennas/dawson ect but it will require a massive improvemnt in there fom but the carrot is there

Who is likely to be the player?
Obviously none of our defenders. If any prem club wanted Gunts then they would of taken him from spurs in the summer. Same for Mckenna. He's been reliable for years at Preston. Why the rush to take him off us now he's under a new contract?
Moose...erm no not yet. Ando. He aint goin nowhere for less than a couple of mill. That aint gonna happen since we only just paid 250k.
We don't own Raddy yet so that's irrelevant.
Dexter? Would have to be silly money
The only 3 I can think of are

Perch- Lower prem side
Earnie- Just because BD clearly not a huge fan
Tyson- Could do a job off the bench for a decent prem side

Whether he admits it or not is totally irrelevant. Our best players will always leave to play for bigger, wealthier clubs because they always have.

It's not like other managers are going to read our press and decide that our players are worth signing all of a sudden because BD says he will let them leave, they will be tracked and scouted regardless.

I reckon that article was probably taken from a wider interview and as such the context is a bit screwed.

He was probably asked. That's normally how interviews work.
