Billy wants it all.

In an interveiw BD has said he wants total control at the club regarding the playing side and has had another dig at the acquisition panel and wants to know what the budget is, if thee is one, for Jan.

This time round Billy gets his opening salvo in good and early. It will be interesting to see how Doughty responds as this is the first time during his tenure where he's had a 'no-fear' manger like Davies at the helm who is willing to do the dirty laundry in public.

Come on Doughty, $pla$h the Ca$h

Was this interview in the papers or on the radio? I wont believe it until i actually hear Billy saying how Billy Davies needs to be in control of the transfers and that Billy Davies is the one who will get sacked when it all goes wrong.

To be fair Doughty has put a lot of money in and despite us not liking the transfer commitee it has seen us sign Blackstock/ Anderson/ Gunter/ Adebola/ McGoldrick/ Majewski/ Lynch. We did miss out on Mills and Barker but we haven't suffered from that so far have we? I think things will remain as they are until the end of the season but I do expect 2 or 3 signings come early January (no transfer dead-line day shenanigans for us please)

By the looks of it, Reading and Derby have though ;D

Doughty has splashed the cash indeed.

And in the summer we got some total bargains.... Anderson and Gunter both arrived for around a third of the asking price.

I'm pretty sure Billy would have known the set-up before he joined the club?
Surely he would have known we have an acquisitions panel who would have a significant input into who we did and didn't sign.

A few papers have reported that he has been speaking out against it all again. If it's true, then I wish he'd shut up about it.

He's doing a great job. He's been given money to spend, the players are playing for him, the crowd are singing his name every week, and he's getting the results. There's no need to be whinging.

Because he knows that it won't be long before ND & his panel will screw everything up again. He's just echoing what many feels about the panel , just because everything is fine now doesn't mean that things will not go wrong as last season january transfer window proved. Billy is just sounding out now so that he doesn't want a repeat of last season.

My argument against BD having absolute control and the death of our AP would be one word long..

Derby.

He had the reigns, he spent a fortune on, for want of a better word, crap. And now Derby are paying for it. Let business men deal with money and football men deal with football.

I think the transfer panel is a good thing. I wouldn't trust one person, however good they may be, with all my cash. You need a considered opinion on transfers in at this will be one way in which forest get a competetive advantage over other clubs.

There's no way he will ever get total control,he's just merely kicking his heels in to ensure a repeat of last January's disaster dosen't repeat itself, and put the board under pressure to bring a much needed one or two reinforcements, which hopefully will go to plan this year.

It worked for him in the summer and largely, he got the players he wanted in. By doing it again, he's hopefully getting into gear for a successful January window.

Well said that man. I wouldn't want to trust Billy with free reign on our transfer funds.

The transfer acquisitions panel has served us well this season. And despite what some say it didn' let us down last year either. We couldn't secure players on permanent deals so signed some high quality players on loan and paved the way for their permanent transfers in the summer.

And those we missed out on.....? None of Mills, Barker or Jones are impressing much at their respective clubs. In fact I was at a gathering with a bunch of Reading fans yesterday and none of them think that he's worth the money they paid for him.

The transfer panel did its job upto a point. And I'm all for watching manager's spending. But now Billy has the fans on side, he can come out and make these comments.

I do feel that the players Barker and Mills would of done a job under Billy, I think they would be sure of their roles and what's expected of them. Not to flounder as they are at Reading and Derby.

But, they do seem to be cutting off the ability to sign players. Although Billy could bring some in on loan (as with Dex etc) and let them prove they will be worth a permanent fee !

Good luck to Billy with this one. He's done a fantastic job so far this season & the City Ground is buzzing. He's quite right saying if results go bad it will be his head on the block. When Calderwood was sacked i don''t remember Pleat holding his hands up. Nigel Doughtys support during the summer was superb & if that was to continue during January who knows where Forest will be come the end of the season. BDs problems at Derby were much deeper than the playing level & wouldn't argue for one second if Doughty allowed BD to use Pleats wage to bring in a loan player.
At the end of the day if Billy tells ND he wants 5 million for players it's upto Doughty to say either yes or no why he should need Pleat to make that decision is beyond me.
If any of you chaps on here asked me to lend a tenner you wouldn't expect me to ask my Dad first would you. The answers no by the way.
COME ON BILLY COME ON YOU REDS.

Remember David Platt ? He lived and died by his own dealings and cost ND a fortune. Nuff said !

Change the record Billy!
:bored:

We know you dont agree with the Acquisition Commitee, and we know you don't think David Pleat should be involved.
Now tell us something new or shut up and get on with your job!

So he spunks a few million on players, we achieve nothing and for some reason he gets sacked! That leaves us sh!t loads in debt with a bunch of over paid players on long term contracts!!

The transfer panel is our defence against wasting ND money - Pleat is effectively Doughts eyes and ears on the transfer front - Billy will be judged by what we do on the field with the players he has and seeing as we are flying high in the league when we expected to be down the bottom end, I doubt his job is will be at risk anytime soon.

"I want to know if I am wasting my time by going for a £5m player - when there is no clear budget - then go and find that we can’t get him, because there isn’t the money for it.”

I think common sense would suggest that targetting a £5m players is a bit too far, Billy...

Clabbyash is dead right. Arguably, the dire predicament we have been in over the last 10 years is down to letting one man have a free rein with our finances. The s--t or bust attitude ended with it all going pear-shaped and we have taken ubtil now (at least) to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We need to have Billy (or anyone else) being forced to go and justify his targets to someone else before we commit to buying them. Let's face it - it seemed to work in summer - our signings were excellent!!!!!!

There was something about this in 'Transfers' over the summer. Can remember the jist of it being the panel basically stops us from signing shit.

Its there to make sure players aren't tied to stupid contracts and ensures the financial stability of the club. Its no bad thing.

Billy's right though, he should ask how much he has to spend. Maybe Forest will let him sign anyone as long as he and the panel can justify it...

For a manager to have free reign over a clubs finance's just can't be done today.
