** Billy Getting Impatient **

Did anyone hear BD's post match comments on Radio Nottingham. He is clearly becoming more and more frustrated by the clubs inability to secure defenders and said things "tell me something I don't know", "We've known the issues here for a long time", "It's not like I didn't warn people" etc etc.... He's not one to mince his words but this is the most direct he has been to date with his frustration towards ND/MA and/or Transfer Panel.

For me it's a difficult one because we've been spoilt this pre-season and spent big although like BD says it's only making up the numbers we should have had already. Everyone knows we're desperate for defenders but it's not like ND has been tight by any means. My view is that we've come this far and £2m more on two defenders is justifiable. BD needs to be a little more gracious although I do share his frustration. I guess he just wants to let the fans know his hands are tied a little bit but we all know that!!

On a separate issues I'm extremely disappointed the club charged season ticket holders for the pre-season games and even more disappointed they're not giving us the Bradford game for free. I took the time to write to the club, ND and MA last week with these issues and also some marketing advice. To date I have not received a response which is disappointing. I won't be attending on Wednesday out of principle (yes I'm a stubborn sod and the money isn't an issue)

Good post.

It's very difficult to comment here because every penny we spend now is coming directly out of the chairman's pocket. When you've already spent £5m it's difficult to agree with 'well just £2m more then'. We're already spending at unprecedented levels, but on the other hand yes it's clear we're still short of a defender or two.

I guess we'll just have to leave it with them. Who's decision was it to spend £1m on McGoldrick instead of put that towards a defender? Who knows, but all in all it's gone pretty well so far so I'm not overly concerned just yet.

I still stand wholeheartedly behind the transfer policy though. If Davies got offered the Celtic job tomorrow he'd be off and we might be left here with Akinbiyi on 15,000 a week if he was allowed complete control. Those days are gone I'm afraid and at I'm glad we're looking after our club properly.

Hes definitely right though. Last seasons squad was so lightweight, and all billys done in real terms is beefed it up to the kind of level it needs to be to not have to spend all season battling relegation.

Whilst we do need to reinforce the defense I think in this case Billy needs to watch his mouth, the club have quite obviously backed him this summer, he's got almost everything he could have wanted, to complain so much now is a little out of order.

This is the one thing that still worries me about this manager, he constantly gives the impression that he can't do anything with players to improve a team, that is main approach is always to spend and his track record proves that. That alarms me because if things do go tits up outisde the transfer window I have the feeling he could end up just sulking and blaming the club rather than trying to make a difference

I think you are making a very big presumption that his frustration is with any one at the club. It may purely be frustration at the overall situation.

My interpretation but if you heard the interview? it's difficult to think otherwise!

january = billy moans in public, the next week forest sign a number of high profile players on loan
pre-season = billy voices concerns over lack of activity forest tie up 9 signings

game 1 = billy voices his concerns again in public about the lack of deffensive players at the club guess how this one will end

Billy targets the player he wants, goes to administration to discuss values, length of contract to be offered, if a major signing how much money to release upfront and any clauses.

Billy and his team then work within pre agreed boundaries, to which BD has been a major part of setting these budget boundaries, to try and sell Forest to the player and the players club to sell to Forest.

Simples so far peeps.

Enter into equation...........selling clubs valuation, selling clubs preference for the club their player will be joining, agents work raising the profile of his player and alerting any other interested clubs to said targets availability and said targets wife/family/personnel preferences. Wages and little or large signing on inducements.

Give the pot a big stir and see what or who wants to come to Forest, or pursue their careers at another club.

Anyone fan who thinks a quick moan in the press will produce instant incoming players should spend less time on internet football forums.

Arthur seems confident of us getting what we need anyway, which is very unusual so hopefully nothing to moan about anyway and it will be pure coincidence if there are transfers incoming over the next week.

I think Billy is showing his frustration at THE MEDIA and the COMMENTATORS who keep asking when he is going to sign defenders or telling him he needs to sign defenders.

That is the point of the interview, nothing to do with the board or the transfer panel.

Well, im sure clubs now know we are desperate for defenders and will price them accordingly.

I quite agree at BD sounding a bit fustrated, but I think it's not down to the inability of the club to sign players. I mean if you look at this summer, that inability has certainly not arisen.

We have missed out on potentially 3 Signings - Barker, Jones and Mills. Barker and Jones I doubt we're chasing too hard and Mills went to a potentially better placed club. Fustrating it maybe for the manager, club and players alike we all just need to be patient.

just read a valid point by cactus red on forest mad, of the 3 potential signings we have supposedly missed out on only Jones played, as Cactus noted he was in a team that got stuffed 4-0 and he displayed obvious floors, the other two didn't play.

Obviously we need to add to the defence and I'm sure we will. Anyone listening to Marthur's interview before the game yesterday it was apparent he agreed that more needs to be done to the squad but sounded like he was confident that some clubs would need to sell as the window draws to a close. The only thing that worried me was that it sounded like he felt we could play the waiting game, but that clearly is not the case with the lack of numbers we have at the back. I still think we could see some movement before next weekend if not I could see Billy's mapparent lack of patience increase.

At least we can take comfort that plans are afoot, offers were made and the money is there. It's just bloody fustrating. It appears now clubs know how much the club can pay they want to hold us to ransom. Donny seemed to be throwing their toys out of the plan because we wouldnt pay the extra, and ended up selling Mills for 2 odd million anyway.

MA sounded keen and confident and we can take from Billy that he WILL keep looking !

I think in general , our upfront fee is small , it's the add ons and top ups that made up the total fee. Reading was willing to pay more upfront hence i imagine why doncaster accepted. We basically only adjusted the add-ons like 500k more if we get promotion etc but not the basic upfront.

Absolutely right.

Also, Nigel Doughty and Mark Arthur are running the club as a business, and - as they've said before - they won't be held to ransom.

I'm sure we were all disappointed we didn't get Mills, but (depeding on who you ask, or which forum you read) maybe he wanted to come, but Reading offered either more money, or terms more acceptible to Doncaster and their odious Chairman?

I'm confiident Billy will get some reinforcements in; either that, or it's back to 2-3-5 and try and win every game 4-3!

"We are looking down the barrel of a shotgun," Davies said after this evenly contested draw. "We're putting square pegs in round holes. It's not ideal and we shouldn't be in this position. But I've been saying this for weeks. We have lost out on Daniel Fox [to Celtic], Shaun Barker [to Derby] and Matt Mills [to Reading]. I will keep giving [the board] advice but we have really put ourselves in a difficult position. We have two defenders, and that's it. We've got James Perch out for three months with a stress fracture, Julian Bennett with a damaged knee to December, and Kelvin Wilson is out with a serious ankle problem."

The problem, according to Davies, goes back to the January transfer window when, between them, Arthur and Doughty failed to bring in any new players to help a relegation-threatened team.

"Don't forget there was absolute zero activity in January," Davies explained. "We were left with the youngest squad in the Championship. I have since loaned out five or six young guys who should never have been near the team. That left us with 12 players and we have done brilliantly in terms of strengthening the middle and front of the team, but we still have a squad of only 21 players and there are other clubs in this division with 30 or 31 players. So I do laugh when I hear about 'big-spending' Nottingham Forest this summer. The fact is we have only spent because of our complete inactivity in January."

I f***ing said that, and as much as its nice to have him, that he was a 'novelty' signing if you think how many other strikers we have and how many defenders we don't.. anyone remember?

Well you all laughed at me then for saying it, but I hope you all suffocate on your taunts..

I dunno if we can recall him or not at the moment, I'd guess not because it's a long term loan. To be honest we'd have to be pretty desperate to bring him back, he's in their first team and bagged a lovely goal the other day. This could be his big chance to develop and come back really ready for playing for us. If we whisk him back now it could bugger up that development.
