Billy Davies to take Scotland Job?

I don't think he would take it.

Scottish football is at rock bottom and I cannot see him swapping another shot at getting to the Prem for 3 or 4 years of failing to qualify for tournaments and having to accept that Darren Fletcher is his star player.

Just to add a new dimension to this, like Brian Clough, although the finest manager England produced and yet did not get the chance to lead the national team. At the time many commentators and sports writers ( Not the prattling fools we have to endure today ) did have a line of thought that maybe Cloughie operated his magic on players, he was able to see week in week out.

The strength was to build them up, to play the style of game he wanted.

Billy Davies from what I hear, is very much the same type of hands on Manager, a manager of men, rather than style and tactics......International Management material ? I don't think so.

Graham Souness got it spot on (never thought id utter that sentance  ) in an interview with Sky today.

It really doesn't matter who takes the job, the players are not there and not even the finest managers would qualify at the moment with them, plus they have no decent youngsters coming through at all.

Hopefully Billy would agree with this.

Taking the Scotland job would be like taking the Derby job, going back to the equivent of Non League football, totally unappealing unlike the Forest Job where play off's will be on this year.

International fixtures, visits to Europe, 60,000+ fans, chance to be a hero to a nation if you succeed. It's a challenge, yes, but it's hardly unappealing, especially as a Scotsman. I'm not saying Billy Davies would take it, but to think that he wouldn't consider it 'because we are Nottingham Forest' as some people seem to feel, is naive. More likely it would be a problem of pay in that Davies will get more here than under the stingy SFA. And Davies has to get ahead of three or four other major candidates first. So it's unlikely to ever be anything to worry about. But who knows. It's all conjecture and nothing would happen for months. Even if Davies was to go, he'd probably remain Forest manager until the end of the season seeing as Scotland have no major events on their calendar.

For the record, I dont think Davies would be interested in the Scotland job because of the apparant 'opportunity' he has at Forest to build a team with backing and take them to the Premier League....would he really want to leave his 'work in progress' ?

However, dont overlook the financial factor as that seems to drive the modern day footballers and managers.
Burley was on £300k at Scotland.
1. How much is Davies on at Forest?
2. How much would Scotland pay Davies
3. How long a contract would Scotland give Davies?

3-4 years contract on a salary like Burleys is a Million quid.
Does his Forest contract compete with that?

If Davies were to ask them 'Do you want me?' They'd say yes I think but I don't think he'll be interested at this stage in his managerial career.

Who knows though? Only him!

I did hear the Craig Brown interview on ssn, but like he said a good candidate but not going to take it.

I can not see Davies taking it, he is in a perfect position in management, he is dragging this club back to good things, he has money to spend and can this Forest job will work wonders for him.

I cant see him walking away now can you?

Before they gave the job to Burley, Billy Davies was like a rash all over the papers staking a claim for the job comparing himself with Slaven Billic IIRC.

Anyhoo, things were different then - he had no job.

Sorry folks but if country came calling Billy would take it.

But there will be other names in the frame and it would have to go past a few of them to get down to him, McAllister, Levein, even Owen Coyle would probably be front-runners ahead of King Billy.

Hopefully they won't come looking for Billy, because losing him would be a big blow.

I expect Billy to use this as leverage to convince ND to sort out his budget for January or else he might put out a 'come get me' to the Scotish FA

He won't take it, he can't bemoan the lack of ability to strengthen his squad because, well, his squad would all be Scottish lol

It's been so long since we had a decent manager I'd totally forgotten the stress of waiting for him to be offered a better job...

He pissed off half the Scottish FA last time by publically withdrawing his interest after being informed privately that Burley had got it.
