Billy Davies Interview

One of the finest, confidence building, honest, down to earth Interviews I have heard from a Forest Manager for years. I was thrilled to listen to Billy Davies, one of the under lying currents I felt was that he had been hurt by press and/or fan comments in the past, revealing a determination to succeed.

There was a considered determination not to leave himself open, but full of honest answers and comments, to think I was not 100% certain that he would be the man for Forest, very early days yet, but consider me a BD convert.

Any of you more capable types finding and posting a thread from his interview on Radio Nottm, for those who missed it, well worth listening to, for thosewho heard him, well worth listening to again.

it was very good.

was real nice to see him praise the players so much.

one part i didnt like tho was 'we have shown that we can beat bigger clubs like shefield wednesday' errrrrrrr

i havnt been converted yet, nor will i until i see the outcome at the end of the season.

saying that, hes impressing me more and more by the day.

I know what you mean.............I just wondered if he meant bigger in terms of player and CCC experience rather than club size ?

Definately did. I think he meant in terms of CCC experiance and the fact that Wednesday are a big physical team and we are a young side.

Listened to the interview on the way home...such a change from his predecessor..very open and honest - highlighting our faults as a fan would, and praising the participants as a manager should.

Full of praise for the younger members of the team, and acknowledged, too, that the fans got jumpy, but that he wants success for the supporters, as well as for himself.

Filled me with a sense of optimism that I haven't had for ages as a Forest fan.

Can't find audio link as yet, only a few quotes on the BBC site here.

Indeed. Whilst I wasn't as negative as many were about Billy's appointment, I was largely indifferent, mainly due to a string of managers failing at this club and a belief I held that relegation was inevitable.

However, Billy has really won me over. Whilst Calderwood has assembled a first team of excellent players and really helped push some of the youngsters into the first team picture, he never really seemed to get the best out of them, in terms of results.

Billy has put this right. I just hope he can see the potential in some of our younger players and not phase them out completely in favour of expereinced players brought in from elsewhere. I don't think he will though, as he seems to have more nous than that.

I think ive got a man crush on Billy Davies

What he talks about on that interview puts everything in perspective, the bloke speaks so much sense. His experiance will make up for the squads lack of it. 12 out of 17 players are under 22! That must be the youngest squad of players in the league. For him and the players to get 4 wins on the bounce and 6 wins out of the last 8 games is outstanding. I think it is time for everyone to relise the job Forest have got to do just to stay in this division. Anything else is a massive bonus. Hopefully if we can add some quality this week we can consolidate. I have been getting carried away thinking that we are going to march up the league now, but it is inevitable that this run is going to end sometime and ill be amazed if it carries on at Cardiff. A point would be amazing and if we win then we should rename the Bridgford end 'The Billy Davies Stand' :D

He talks about the crowd getting making the players nervous and i admit getting wound up at the odd stray pass (i never boo by the way). The fans really need to create a positive athmosphere at the CG and get behind the team, not on at them. I for one will always try and remain positive and encourage players - even Lynch! Some of the players only left school 3 years ago!

When he talks about 'bigger clubs' he means in terms of experiance of playing at this level. We have got to relise that we are miles behind a lot of clubs in the CCC at the minute, even the likes of Barnsley, Watford, Palace. All got loads of experiance at this level.

I have said all along BD was the right man and maintain that even more now. I hope everyone pulls together now and gets behind him now. Onwards and upwards

Fantastic post. BD will be great for our club, I have no doubts about that. I dont care if we finish 21st this season, its all about consolidation and building for next year.

I think its good the next game is away from home, I can see the away fan's being in full voice not keeping quiet the whole game, really hope we can keep pushing on from here and get abit of a bigger gap between ourselves and the bottom lot.

If Feb doesn't go well for us then we are very much back in the think of things with the teams below us picking up a few a points lately. We are only 4 points from the bottom 3 and two of the teams below us have a game in hand. It can all change in a very short space of time. We aren't quite at the stage of looking ahead of us rather than over our shoulders.

Enjoy it while its going well, but when things start getting tough that is when we are needed most to SUPPORT the team and try and push them on through a tough period. So here's to hoping we can keep up the positivity when things aren't looking so good, because it wasn't so long ago not one person in here seen this sort of change happening.

he just seems to be quite logical to me. Honest and open about the team and football in general.

Play solid formations, play players in natural positions, if they are shit get new ones in as long as they are better.

We'll see - we are winning but not playing that well, lets see if we can get back Colins sexy football too (ducks for cover) - then i'll go down on him

Mythlogical, managers who usually get manager of the month have over achieved and our usually brought down back to earth shortly afterwards, not because of a curse :p

The thing for me is he doesn't come across as a mate to the players like Calderwood was.

As most of them are so young, they probably don't know any better, and may not have come across a Billy Davies type figure before. Now they have, they know his experience and record and are all ears and willing to work hard.

Even Earnshaw last night, god damn he was working his balls off like I've never seen him do before. Let's just hope none of the players get too upset, they seem to be quite a tight knit group that all get on with each other. If one gets treated badly, it might upset a few of them. Bit like footy manager :D

I will openly admit to not being a Billy Davies fan when he was first appointed but having said that he has had a good start. Hopefully it's not just the manager bounce effect. We should remember that 2 wins and the draw at Derby were the result of Pemberton and Kelley. But don't get me wrong I'm not moaning and it's great to have a sense of optimism around the club again.

What I do admire about the guy is the attitude he brings. A determination coupled with a self belief and arrogance that comes with a winners mentality. It's just what this club has needed. Strangley reminds me of a young Brian Clough when he arrived here many years ago. And I can't see him taking any shit from the players or a certain Mr Arthur.

So a great start, no signs of the 1 nil ground out results we were warned about, a sense or realism, a good dose of tactical nouse and knowing when to switch a formation (look at McCleary yesterday for Tyson's goal), feet on the ground, desire and drive. I am becoming a fan

I think it was Di that said yesterday during the game that BD had changed the shape of the team more times than she had changed her socks.

I think that is good to see, that he changes the system when things aren't going well. Was quite a change to CC being too stubborn to make the slightest change apart from a direct change of player in the same positions. Good to see him experimenting trying to find away around the oppositions tactics.

And as I said yesterday to Di I wasn't reacting in a bad way to her saying it, just pointing out she noticed it :) Although she did get very upset I then had to send her over that early Valentines present she was chatting about. ;)

I think 'Not Colin' will win the MOTM.

No wonder my post count..
It really feels like Forest have been a broken watch since summer. It's been taken to H Samuel, Goldsmiths, Beaverbooks and no-one could understand why it won't work.

Then, someone took it to Billy Davies's watchmaker, a small shop in the corner of town which has been there a long time, who simply looked at the watch, gave it a few tweaks and bam! Tick Tock!

Ok, I'm a sucker for metaphors and comparisons, but thats just how being a red feels right now.
