Billy Davies, Forest, and an introduction

Hey everyone,

I'll introduce myself first. I'm from Aberdeen, and an Aberdeen fan , but I've recently decided to adopt Forest as my English team. I have a few mates in Nottingham who are always speaking about Forest, so I ended up always checking for results etc. Since I don't really support any English teams as such, I thought why not Forest. It seems a bit plastic I know, but I found myself rooting for you guys on Soccer Saturday so why the hell not. I'm sure I'll get labelled a twat but hey ho. So thats the gist of it. I hope to get to the City Ground for the first time next time I'm down visiting. All the twats up here support Man United and Liverpool just because they are successful, its pretty damn annoying. I suppose Aberdeen fans could argue the Ferguson connection, but thats a bit hollow for me. If Fergie was at Cheltenham Town I somehow don't think they would feel the same way...

I'm a big Billy Davies fan, think he is a great manager. I wanted him at Aberdeen before he got appointed here, and I wanted him in the Scotland job before Burley shat on our dreams and didn't flush. It would be interesting to hear all the thoughts on him. Did a cracking job to get Derby up a few years back given their squad, cause they were mince :D.

You guys are having a cracking season would love to get filled in on the haps, who's been great who's been shite etc. I know of most of your players by name but I've only seen a few play. I don't particularly rate Earnshaw but he seems to have a good goalscoring record for you. My mates never shut up about Lee Camp, if he's not the best thing since beef jerky I'm going to be disappointed. I remember signing Blackstock in football manager once and he was pretty decent, seeing as football manager is basically real life, I'm guessing that he's a decent enough player. My mate was pretty upset about Shorey not staying, said he was immense. Is Paul Anderson any good? I'm certain that Aberdeen tried to get him on loan when he was still at Liverpool, fell through though.

Also what happened with Nigel Clough?? Did he actually attack BD? Seen a video of the rammy but it was difficult to make out anything at all.

Cheers guys

Morning, port86, and welcome to LTLF!

I think the general concensus on BD is that he's the best thing to happen to this club for a good few years - though I await the inevitable flaming for that observation.

The football that's being served up on a fortnightly basis at the City Ground at the moment certainly ranks among the most pleasing-to-watch-regardless-of-the-result fare we've been treated to for quite a while. The good times are back.

As for who's excelled, I know it sounds a bit clichéd, but it really has been a team effort.
I could pick out Paul McKenna as the general in midfield, Raddy Majewski as the dynamo creating things, but to do so would be to ignore Paul Anderson, Chris Cohen & co who provide excellent service to the strikers, and Guy Moussi whi has played only a few games but has bean a beast in pretty much all of them...

To do THAT would be to ignore the likes of Wes Morgan who - and let's face it, a couple of seasons ago was the sort of player of who you'd say "aww, bless him he's a local lad and he tries hard" ... now he's the sort of player to whom we sing "You'll never beat Wes Morgan" - he has been utterly immense this season...then there's Chris Gunter, another bargain buy, and the resurgence of Kelvin "Planet" Wilson [to the guys near where my dad and I sit, everything's fine on Planet Wilson - he's in a different world to everybody else, and nothing will get the better of him.] ;D

Don't forget Lee Camp in goal. Is he better than Paul Smith? I'll let YOU ask that question! :D

Hope you can make it down soon - it's WAY better in the flesh than on iPlayer!
:)

Good stuff, thanks.

I suppose all teams have their tryers, but its rare you hear about them actually becoming good! At Aberdeen we have a guy called Darren Mackie who was once labelled the Scottish Michael Owen. Perhaps the most glaring difference between Mackie and Owen, is that Mackie couldn't score in a brothel. Not to say that is the only difference, I'm scarce to even call Mackie a footballer, he wouldn't be out of place in a pub team.

The poor guy gets loads of stick, but he is Aberdeen through and through. Its refreshing to hear about a player in a similar situation improving and winning the fans over.

Whats the thoughts on promotion? I'm sure you all want to go up, but is it in the back of your minds that it might be too soon? I presume Davies would get plenty cash to strengthen, and probably plunder the SPL ala Gordon Strachan in the process. I've heard that Forest are on sound financial footing, how sound are we talking here? Millionaire owner, or just a well run club?

Morning Port86 - You certainly will not be called a "Twat" in fact I admire you for chossing your English team as being someone other than the 'Big 4', so you are more then welcome.

when you do come down, make sure it's on or around the same time we organise the usually large piss ups, then we can finally prove that the scottish can drink! ;D

Promotion I think is a long way away, although I think Billy Davies will be gunning for the top spot deep down...

You'll love supporting Forest, but think of it as bbeing married. It will fustrate you for 90% of the time, but that 10% when it is perfect, is great :)

Welcome mate. It's always nice to have fans of other teams on board. I loved Aberdeen. Great night out ;D Although I must admit, the results I look for tend to be Forres Mechanics and Elgin. (Anything less than 3 put past either is usually a good result ;D)

Welcome to the club Port. Celtic are my Scottish team, but that's down to family from Glasgow. Let us know when you're down and I know for a fact many here will make you very welcome. I wont take it personal that the Dons lost 0-1 at home last week and cost me about 50 squid on my footy bet...

If its any consolation you joined the right Forest Forum. The others seem full of dicks that are so of themselves I'm surprised they have time for football in their lives.

Cheers lads, should be a laugh right enough. Got Ipswich on the 10th of April in my sights...

The Dons are possibly the most frustrating team in the world to watch and support, so I'm used to ups and downs, albeit mostly downs...

I particularly liked them for Charlie Mulgrew. Signed him in FM 2009 for Rangers. Playing LB he scored a total of 24 goals from that position. Free kicks, thunderbolts and cross-come-shots. He's shit on 2010 though :(

Mulgrew has a cracking left peg in real life too, but he's not much of a defender. Gets skinned far too often, and has pace to rival a sloth. Would do well in the championship but I think he'd be found out in the premiership.

howdy port ! i remember watching aberdeen win the cup winners cup against real madrid whilst secretly getting pissed on my dads homebrew with one of my mates ( i was only 13 ) didn't you knock bayern munich out in the quarter final as well ? anyway since then aberdeen has been the scots team i like to see do well rather than the glasgow stranglehold on everything . i hope you enjoy your visit to the city ground when you get the chance. :)
