BILLY Davies today backed Radi Majewski to start making a big impact for Nottingham Forest again this season – as the Pole benefits from a break from the action.
The Reds boss admitted that the midfielder played more games than he had expected during his debut campaign last year, after moving on loan from Polonia Warsaw.
But, after being a first team regular last season – and sealing a permanent £1m switch to the City Ground – Majewski had been a more peripheral figure in the last few months.
Davies, however, revealed that this had been an intentional move, to allow the 23-year-old to rest.
And he believes Forest are reaping the rewards now, with Majewski being an integral figure in the last three games.
"He probably played more games than we had expected him to play last season," said Davies.
"Because he was a young player coming into a side in a new country, we did not expect him to play that regularly. He had to learn all about Championship football.
"But he has come in and made a great impact early on. He played a bigger part than we had anticipated."
Davies believes the club have benefited by continuing to treat the player with kid gloves.
"Young players go through highs and lows and sometimes you have to take them out of the firing line," he said.
"You have to let them take a big breath, look at things from afar. And, when they come back in, they are firing on all cylinders. That is exactly what has happened to Radi."
"He has come back into the side and is hitting fine form.
"He has had the chance of a break and he is benefiting from it, just as one or two others have done."
Forest's Lewis McGugan has been named the PFA Championship Fans' Player of the Month for October,
The in-form midfielder took his tally to six goals in seven games. And he netted what must already be a contender for goal of the season against Ipswich at the City Ground, as he smashed a 35-yard free-kick into the net.
