Best route Nottm - Madejski?

Never driven to the Madski before, but as previously documented elsewhere, I've got to on Saturday and can't leave Nottm until 1130hrs.

AA, RAC, Routefinder, my Tom Tom & transport direct all give me different preferences to get there. The quickest is coming out as M1, M40 down through Oxford, but I can't get my head round this being right.

Anyone advise which is actually the best route please?

(f*** knows why I'm bothering, but that's Forest for you).

The quickest way is the M40 route it's coming out with. M1 -> A43 (or any suitable cut across from M1 to M40) -> M40 -> A404 -> M4

If you have time and want to miss the M4 - resembles the Wacky Races at the best of times - i'd go M1, A43, M40 (one junction) A34, come off at Boars Hill and take the A4074 straight into Reading, follow the IDR through to the ground. Lovely stuff. Could also choose to head into Henley-on-Thames for pre-match drinks as it's only 8 miles (20mins) to the ground from there. Some top totty in Henley.

I avoid the IDR whenever possible! It's a nightmare of merge in / merge out traffic!

I find the quickest way from the M1 to the M40 is via the M69 at J21, then the A46.

You can also cut across on the A43 but that road can be abit of a nightmare at times but I've never had an problem on the M69 and A46.

A wonderful piece of engineering in my opinion - 5 shandy's and away we go.

What the feck is the IDR!?! Henley sounds good fun, but I'm travelling down with her in doors and the nipper, so i'll save that for another day thanks.

Would that scenic route through Boar Hill and the IDR (whatever that is) add a lot on the time? As I say, I can't leave until 1130hrs so haven't got much time to play with.

Couldn't bare to miss kick off, what with us being so entertaining at the minute

Its the Internal Distribution Road. (I think thats what it stands for.)

Basically a road that curves in and around the town centre. Best avoided on a Saturday, I'd say.

Inner Distribution Road to be picky - A nice bit of concrete build in the 60s. Best route is A42 (M42) then M40 then A404 to M4 followed by a couple of junctions up the M4. This avoids the town and all mention of the IDR. Going past the oracle can be a nightmare

The A43 now by-passes Silverstone and has basically become a better race-track than the authorised one!

True but too many roundabouts and two forward facing speed cameras to be the quickest route I think. Although the roundabouts and accleration, not to mention the easily available McDonalds do make it an attractive option.

69-40/m4 takes you in. Best by far. Try the combinations but they will be slower. Even with roadworks a Saturday will be ok.

Done it a thousand times.

And stay at f***ing home!

Thanks for everyone's advice, most helpful.

My head tells me JGP's suggestion is the most sensible. Unfortunately my heart will be dragging me down to Berkshire to watch another load of f***ing drivel from the boys in red.

Though you never know....

Haven't you missed games this season by being caught in traffic?

Due to an accidne ton the M1, which can hardly be classed as my fault!
