Best Game You've Seen At The City Ground

What's the best game you've see at the City Ground?

I think mine would have to be against Villa in the last Premiership season.

This was the season where Villa were absolutely storming away at the top of the table, only to blow it later on. They were top when they came to the City Ground and Forest absolutely played them off the park in the first half. We went in 2-0 up at half time, with goals from Bart-Williams and Freedman. Villa hit back in the second half, with two goals from Julian Joachim. Both teams then had numerous chances to win the game, with Dion Dublin missing an absolute sitter right at the end.

Absolute cracker of a game.

Far too many to mention, but the following were the first to spring to mind:

The 1-1 against Man Utd in 1994. First home game of the season, if I remember correctly - we'd just been promoted with Frank Clark at the helm after dropping out of the Premier League the previous year. Man Utd came to town in their fancy new all-black strip with all their superstars in tow, the game was live on Sky on a Monday night, and we had Roy and Collymore up front. We went a goal down (Kanchelskis I think) but Collymore scored a cracking equalizer and we knew we were back in the big time for real.

The 4-1 against Sheffield Wednesday the same year was also a corker - Roy played brilliantly all afternoon and wrapped up a superb team performance with a lovely goal of his own.

1-0 against Malmo a year later. Another Roy fizzer (this time scored right under my nose, witnessed from the front row of the comfy upper tier of our brand-spanking-new Trent End stand) and all the magic of the occasion, what with our first opponents back in Europe being the team we'd beaten seventeen years earlier to win the European cup, made for some amazing memories. Plus it was the second leg of the tie and the result was enough to see us through to the next round (I have a feeling we'd lost 2-1 in the away leg).

And the 1-0 (at least I think it was 1-0... could have been 1-1 though) against Notts County in the 93/94 promotion season. Collymore had sustained a head injury but played on with a bandage wrapped around his head - naturally he headed the winner (or equalizer - can't quite remember which) with about fifteen minutes to go. Brilliant. But I remember it was the perfect footballing Saturday afternoon conditions that made it such a wonderful memory - no sunshine, slightly misty and cold (but not wet or windy) and we were all jammed in the Trent End which was in its final year as a terrace. Full house that day too, of course.

Good thread. Can we start one of these for away matches too?

There's a few but i think it must go to Yeovil last year. The first time i had seen us get promoted and ended 10 years of frustration for all forest fans and was a very entertaining and nerve racking game.

I can only remember one game in the Premiership and that was against Liverpool and we drew 2-2. Liverpool were 2-1 in front, i remember Owen scored 1 of them, before we equalised in the last minute from a freekick. Might have been Van Hooijdonk. It must have been a great game for me to remember it as i would have been 5/6 at the time.

4-0 vs West Ham in the FA Cup Semi - I think we were in the Holte End and it was split in half between Forest and Wham fans and songs were going back and forth constantly, even though they got dicked on.

1-2 vs Bayern Munch away. Was great fun, singing 'alice, alice, who the f*** is alice?' and when Bayern scored, they played some music but they didn't when we scored, so we sang it ourselves. They must have thought we were bonkers :D

3-1 against Yeovil, purely because of the promotion.

4-1 against Southend, day before my birthday, was great to see us really destroy a team, Tyson scored a quality goal and I think it was the last goal Ian Breckin scored for us.

7-1 against Swindon, purely because we scored 7, and Southall scored a hat trick, one of my favourite players in recent years.

0-1 against Bolton, can't remember when, but I remember sitting in upper Cloughie watching football. :)

Neither at the City Ground, though :D

I started watching games during the David Twatt era so not many home highs for me. But the one home game that'll always stick in my mind was the 3-0 thumping (that could have easily been 7 or 8) we gave the sheep during our playoff run. The whole day was just perfect, not just for the outcome of the game.

Yeovil last season was great aswell, just to finally get out of that shitty league was just pure joy and relief. Just hope that within the next 2 or 3 seasons we can experience an afternoon like that again.

The 3-0 Derby game was a bit special, although oddly my most memorable experience at the City Ground was Brian Clough's last game in charge against Sheffield United. I can't remember anything about the game, which we lost, aside from Franz Carr being on the bench for them and getting a chant from us in the Trent End.

The remainder of the day was spent giving BC a memorable send off. Emotional times.

2-1 against west ham when king scored the winner was pretty sweet. respect to harewood for not celebrating when he opened the scoring for the hammers. watched lady bay utd play sunday league that morning down at the meadows pitches, all the teams did a minutes silence and wore black armbands for Clough.

2-2 against leicester, jack lester equalizing late, late on, sparking absolute pandemonium. one newpaper report the next day likened it "the sort of scenes you'd find in a family's living room upon discovery of a jackpot winning lottery ticket".

yeovil last year, dad took his mate over from oz who had never been to a game, he didn't know what the f*** was going on to be honest, what with the scores comin in from elsewhere and whatnot, but he was pretty impressed.

harewoods goal against palace will also live on long in the memory. huge.

Nah it will be the 5-0 predicted by Rich, still a classic though :-*. Real exciting matches have been few and far between,I'm suprised no one who was at the Bristol City match recently gave that a mention, one of our biggest results in recent years for sure as well.

Forest 3-0 Sheep
Forest 7-1 Swindon
Forest 3-2 Yeovil
Forest 2-1 Westham (watched it on the tele, but still like to mention it)

And that's really about it

Not been many games where I've came out saying, that was the best game I've seen Forest play, but here's a few.

Forest 2 - West Ham 1
Yeovil last season.
Forest 3-0 vs Direby
Forest 4 - Southend 1, I just remeber them scoring in like 2 minutes, but we quickly turned it around!
Forest 7-1 vs Swindon
Forest 2-1 vs Huddersfield I think, Where Kelvin Wilson got sent off, and Mcgugan scored in the last minute... the atmosphere was really good for a night game, I think it was!

1-1 Man U or 4-2 Leicester (or was it 4-1) when Gemmill Jr. scored 2, including one where the keeper he scored past provided the assist.

3-3 Ipswich FA CUP 1981 - we were 2-0 down after about 20 mins and then were winning 3-2 with about ten mins to go. Great game.

0-0 Celtic Uefa Cup 1984 (I think) - not so much for the game itself but for the atmosphere provided by two sides of the ground being packed with their fans.

0-2 Derby 1993 (?) - The game was actually at the BBG but I and many others watched it on a big screen at the City Ground. Gary charles OG and Colin Cooper scored. Promotion all but secured.

3-2 Yeovil last year - Promotion at last after the worst years of supporting the club.

I was lucky enough to be at the Baseball Ground for that one. What a night - and I still have the TV highlights on video somewhere!

:)

You're still not allowed to have away games in this thread though. If you were, I'd go one better by saying Auxerre away in the UEFA Cup in the 95/96 season. No Collymore that night but Jason Lee did a fantastic job up front on his own all night and Stoney popped up with the winner. It was AMAZING.

1985 MAN UTD we were 2-0 down at ht then won 3-2 when metgod scored with a free kick in the 90th min. think that was the last time man utd lost a game after being 2-0 up.
1979 COLOGNE euro semi 3-3 draw after being 2-0 down
