Cracking news. Hopefully means we'll have a recognised left-back for the last 8 or so games of the season!

Regardless of some people's thoughts regarding his ability, it's good to see him back. He's been through a very serious injury at a very young age.

Quite.
I don't personally think he'll be fit enough, or good enough, for the run-in, but fair play to the guy. It's been a long lay-off. Shame we don't have a reserve team...

What was up with him exactly again?

I suppose whether he makes an impact this season depends on how much of a natural he is. It'd come back to him easy if he is.

Good to hear, i like him. If Billy D has managed to improve Wes and Kelvin this much there's no reason Bennett can't improve the same way, it's all about how much such a long amount of time has effected him both physically and mentally. Best of luck to the lad.

I'd be a lot happier having a fit JB at left back rather than JP, it's just hard to image he'll be able to get up to match fitness and game pace this season.

If he's ever fully fit I for one expect him to come in and do very well.

People writing him off are mugs.

As long as his injury is cleared up, he should be match fit by about July.

Wel said Weasel. In my eyes he has stepped up to the mark on several occasions when people have been writing him off. He will do so again under Billys guidance. Strength o character, run through brick walls and all that. The boy lets the opposition know he is around and a lot of players will remember him. I seem to remember him putting in some useful crosses given time and space.

ENERGYYY. Watch this space.

I also remember him kicking Andrei Shevchenko around for 90 minutes and making Mourinho laugh about it.

I'd say he'll improve greatly under BD.

Even though I do not rate him; it is hard not to admire his passion and commitment towards the cause so his comeback is good to hear :)

It still would be surprising if he figures much this season though.

Good news for Bennett and good news for the club, I hope he can regain some sort of match fitness before the end of the season. Perhaps Billy would loan him out for a month to help him play a few games as there is no reserve side.

Cheers for editing my epic spazzy typing in the thread title. I tried but it wouldn't let me

This is fantastic news. I wasn't a fan of Bennett in his first season with us and seem to recall his default instinct back then was to hoof the ball (although his crunching tackle on Shevchenko remains my only pleasant memory of an otherwise embarrassing day at Stamford Bridge). In our League One promotion year he went on to win me over completely as his passionate style of play remained but, for the first time, he looked both assured and reliable and was a worthy recipient of the 'Player of the Year' trophy.

I'm convinced he'll prove to be the answer to our left-back nightmare. He lacks the polish of Nicky Shorey (who I'm still hoping will pull on the Garibaldi shirt again next season) but his never-say-die attitude will go some way towards compensating for this.

I'm concerned that he will be our 'new left-back.' We've now had a week at least to secure an alternative yet no signings seem to be forthcoming. Not that I dislike Bennett, I unlike others think he's a decent enough player. I just worry that the burden of the injury will have turned him from decent enough to not decent enough.
