Bennet or Perch

When bennet is fit who would you rather have playing a Left back perch or bennet?

Shorey. We've been spoilt by having the best left back in the division and now Bennett dosn't seem as good. He's a decent player but if we want to take the next step we need Premiership class players.

Bennett would be good cover for injuries so we don't have the situation where we risk a promotion by not having a left back.

Perch is a temporary measure, same as Cohen. They can't be a long term solution.

It's such a long long time since Julian has played a first team competitive game that he could come back like a new signing. :excited:

Even though I understand he played 45 minutes recently I doubt he's ready for a place in the squad just yet. It would be great to see him play before the seasons end but that all depends upon where we are and what we're doing and what we need.

Bennett, I don't think he is better than Perch but the one advantage he has is at least he is left footed.

Playing somebody at left back who can't use their left foot really unbalances you, attacking wise Perch is a waste of time at left back because by the time he has controlled the ball and got it on his right foot the move is dead and we have to start again.

Not having a pop at Perch because he is being played out of position.

Davies seems to suggest here bennett wont feature this season. But it could all be mind games on his part.
From the NEP:

"Davies has reiterated his belief that Bennett will not be ready for a first team return this season.
"I have totally given up on the idea of him playing this season, there is no chance that he will be involved this season, having watched him in training," he said.
"We will keep him training through to the summer and then, if he can get through pre-season, it will be time to get him to a proper fitness level."

Cohen if not then Jules

Impossible to judge. Bennett has come back from a very serious injury and may never recover to the same level as before his injury...

And that level was division 3.

Maybe.

Some players take longer than others to 'make the step up' when their team goes up a division.

I think it's too early to write him off, although I don't expect him to set the world on fire, as some do...

Dont think its fair to write him off before he has had a fair crack at this level tbh. Everyone was saying kelvin wasnt good enough for the championship last season but i dont see any of that now...

Bennett with one leg and his hands tied behind his back any day over Perch..

But if i'm being totally honest neither are good enough!!

Bennett was our best player in League one. Others have made the step up so id be confidant he could easily play in the championship if we are still here next season. If we go up then he would only be cover. But a fit Bennett at left back over a fit Perch at left back anyday.

It would have to be Bennett for me by a mile. Having said that, hopefully come the summer we'll be in a position to attract Shorey back. He's the classiest left-back I've seen in the Garibaldi since Psycho and I'm still gutted he wasn't tied up immediately.

Who will BooBaby boo?
Bennett - because he's a left footed left back, simples. Perch is a defensive midfielder but vesatile enough to fill many other roles, he's done us proud - this season and others. Being captain for a while helped him, same as being voted player of the season bouyed Jules up enough to try a shot and score THAT goal (pinched that phrase from Winnits, but its a good phrase and a good shot).

Cohen's the best left back at the club.

Unfortunately he's also the best midfielder as well, so one way or another, we're going to lose out.

But it is what it is, hopefully we can get a left back in - and as has been said, we were spoilt rotten with Shorey, who was a real one off in this division.
