This might be the most exciting Forest news in a while..

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has hinted that the club is keen to make Ryan Bertrand's loan move to the City Ground a permanent deal in January.

The Chelsea left-back joined in August for six months and has played 18 games.
When asked if he wanted to extend the 21-year defender's loan period, Davies told BBC Radio Nottingham that the Reds were also weighing up a permanent deal.

"There are two options, one is to extend and one is to buy him and I've made my recommendation," Davies said.

"We'll wait and see what happens - we're looking at all options. It's in the hands of other people.

"In any great side you build from the back and that is very important. We'll see what develops. We'll keep asking the questions."

Davies has already expressed his desire to extend the loan deal for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The Wales international's loan period is also due to expire in January and Davies said it is vital Forest get their business done rapidly.
He said: "There are conversations going on with Aaron and a number of other people so we'll see what takes place.

"The recommendations have been made. It is very important that we get the situation sorted as quick as possible and get the dressing room settled down and firmly focused on getting this club back in the Premier League.

"There are just some areas we need to strengthen up on and some changes we need to make.

"There is no doubt that shaking the bag in the next window is very important, bringing in some freshness. Letting one or two who need to get games go and just freshening the dressing room is very important."

Yes after the match on the radio he sounded like he hinted a perm deal rather than a extended loan.

I suppose its like what happened with Gunter.. Well lets wait and see.

I was kind shocked when he said one of the options was to buy him, so I guess that the club are pretty confident that he'll be with us until the end of the season at least.

If we do opt to extend his loan then this will have been his fourth season spent out on loan. Now if I were him I'd have twigged that Chelsea do still rate him, but not enough to keep him around the first team (as they have with Van Aanholt this season)

I like Bertrand, he is a good left-back, and is still young..

In all his interviews he seems a nice genuine lad who seems to have his head screwed on properly, he seems very positive about things at Forest and has even said himself that he would like to extend his stay here.

I would like to see him get up the field a bit more tho, and get a couple of goals!

Would love to get Bertie on a permanent (would still be pleased with an extended loan to be honest).. he and Gunts compliment each other very well at fullback - just need to be cautious they don't both burst forward too much - or at least that there's a midfielder to cover (Moose did this well against Palace) as otherwise it can cause a big gap between our two centrebacks if we get hit on the break.

Billys can hint all he wants about Bertrand and Ramsey , the decision is sadly ultimately up to the chelski & arsenal manager.

What Billy wants and what Billy wants isn't normally the same thing.

I suggest that convincing Chelsea to let go of him may be the easier part of the deal.

All Bertrand's interviews I have heard since he has been here seem to indicate that he stills see's his future at Chelsea and he may not want to let that dream slip away quite so easily

Personally i dont see chelsea selling but if we can get him or at least loan him till end of season then id be happy.

Gunter was the same.

If Chelsea accept a bid and don't see a future for him there then I imagine he'd come around quite quickly to the idea of moving on. One problem might be interest from other clubs, he's done well in the Championship for about 3 seasons now and is England's U21 left back, a few Prem clubs might be taking a look.

He seems to have settled in well though, he's the 1st to celebrate every goal and does so very enthusiastically!

We could also do a double bid for Jack Cork, who's in a similar boat at Chelsea and has done very well at Burnley.

He's never going to be good enough for Chelsea. They also have the young Dutch left back who's getting into the first team. So could see them selling but with Ryan playing for the under 21's they might think they can get a higher price.

I'd be super happy if the club pulled this deal off.

It's gonna be a tough purchase though, as he will be wanted by other clubs. Left-footed players are difficult to come by

2 summers ago we were adamant we had absolutely no chance in a Gunter deal and somehow we pulled it off. I have every confidence this could happen again.

Hope we sign him permantley.

He's english so i doubt he will get a chance at chelsea

So if Chelsea do not offer him a new deal, Then we would have to pay compensation? should we sign him. But we could make Chelsea an offer to buy him outright in Jan. Or they could offer him a new deal and we get him on loan again.

I stay at Forest personally wouldn't want my mentor being Ashley "any hole" Cole
