Barnsley - Wolves

I hope that Wolves are not already promoted as champions before this game. Mick McCarthy was born in Barnley and started his playing career with them and has a soft spot and a lot of time for the club....

That's worried me actually and Wolves have a horrendous record there. Just keep thinking about our own results...

Don't expect any favours from Wolves.

I know someone who runs a theatre in Barnsley and they have him coming up this week for a "night with..." evening.

So? That's ridiculously unprofessional. Common$ is a Forest fan, yet that didn't stop him scoring that screamer against us did it? There is no chance Wolves will slack off at all, they will be aiming to finish the season with a flourish

Don't agree. Do you think that these things don't happen in football? Don't be so naive. Also you cannot make a comparison with Commons playing for Derby in a highly charged FA Cup tie at Forest (where he is hated) and Barnsley playing Wolves with maybe nothing to play for and where McCarthy is very well liked (and who very much likes Barnsley).

We get 2 more wins we should stay up. Regardless of how Wolves get on at Barnsley remember Norwich still have to play and Barnsley have a game in hand on top of this.

Well Wolves would have to beat QPR to be sure of promotion before the Barnsley game so lets hope that they screw it up on Saturday. I am pretty sure that any love that Mick Mac has for Barnsley will go out of the window if Wolves need to get something from that game to be promoted.

I pretty sure that Mick McCarthy will only look out for his side on that day. Do you really expect the Wolves players to let Barnsley get something from the game even if McCarthy suggests the idea to them?

The only person allowed to "give" points to other teams is Lee Camp :)

Nope. I am pretty sure that is the point I was making.

Unless your comments were not specifically aimed at me in which case ignore the previous sentence.

Even if McCarthy did want Barnsley to stay up, how likely is it that he'll tell his players not to play their best?
If it became public knowledge that he felt that way, eg if one or more of the players told people they'd been instructed to loose, he'd probably never work in football again.

Exactly..would never happen. The only way the manager could justifiably influence the result in a negative way is by picking an "experimental" side.

Have had the pleasur of meeting Mick Mc several times, and believe him to be nothing but professional in his attitude to the game

Yes, he has strong ties to Barnsley, but the suggestion that Wolves will be doing Barnsley favours?? i doubt it.

Nobody has mentioned or is suggesting that McCarthy will instruct his players not to give 100%. However if Wolves are already promoted champions then players attitudes can change, training can become more relaxed, you would expect the Wolves players to be out celebrateing and like mentioned above key players can be left out and a experimental side is possible. All these things increase Barnsleys chances of getting a result. However if we win our last 3 games then none of this will matter ;D
