Average Attendance

Just read the Football Post and noticed that we have the 5th highest average attendance in the Championship with 22,299 - Not bad considering the season we've had.

Only downside, the sheep were top with an average of 29,440 :(

Not bad at all. I'm quite surprised at that given how empty the CG appeared on most matchdays. Anyone know how we rank against other teams for away support?,, we always do quite well on our travels

They will even out next season I am sure of it. Derby sold a lot of tickets off the back of being in the Prem and the promise of an instant return by Paul Jewell.

That's more like it.

And Derby give a lot of their tickets away for free. Allegedly!

I think 22,299 is quite impressive actually and kind of sticks two fingers up at those who said we would get the same or less than last season.

I know the average is raised because of games like Derby home and Wolves when they brought 5000, but it's an improvement and with season ticket prices frozen next season and renewed hope in the manager, I think we could be looking at closer to 25,000 on average.

For anyone interested, the attendance table looks like this:

To be fair, to go and see Birmingham - Forest it was 30 quid, so I dread to think what some of their big matches cost!

They'd get my vote as the worst home support i've witnessed this season. Shocking attendance against us and absolutely no atmosphere apart from the Forest end.

Can we actually fit 30602 in the City ground? I can't even remember a 30k+ game

Probably not!,, i think that includes the seats in the corner of the Bridgeford Lower where you cant even see the pitch

pride park has the worst atmosphere in the whole league

man United when we lost 8-1 is the only time I can remember getting over 30k with the ground as it is.

I'm sure there have been days when the Ground has certainly looked jam packed and the attendance is like 25,000 or so. Can't they fiddle with it abit so they don;t have to pay as much tax, alledgedly ?

No, it doesn't.

30,602 isn't our official capacity anymore anyway.

Seats were ripped out of the A-Block about 5 years ago admist policing concerns. The seats under Cap One Corner which have restricted view have also been written off.

With segregation on top, our capacity is somewhere around 29,600.

With the ups and downs, next season Derby and Forest could be one and two.

Oh hang on, I forgot the downs from the Premiership - Newcastle will be one I expect.

I can see us staying about 5th or 6th next season.

Derby will be higher than us still, prob not by the same margain though. West Brom have already sold 16,000 season tickets, one of Newcastle or Sunderland may come down, both will be way ahead of us, plus Leeds may be coming up.

Having said that we have lost Wolves and Norwich.

Be interesting to see what kind of crowds Newcastle and Boro get if they come down.

I expect Newcastle to still get 40k+ but I think Boro's crowds will really dwindle

Next season it will be alot harder to finish 5th for attendances.
im guessing next season we will be seventh with average off 24,697 :D

The sheep may well average more than us next season but if they resort to their tricks of this season, we will have more full-paying fans go than they will. No doubt they will have some sort of Vodaphone deal, buy a bottle of beer deal (and get in for free), A free university of Derby deal (up to 3000 free tickets per game). Take all those 'fans' off the total and you might find that Derby only have about 20,000 paying fans.
