I've read a lot abot him not breaking through and not looking that good but he only turned 18 a few months ago. At the same point in Burke's career, he'd made two substitute appearances. Burke's explosion came another two seasons down the line.
 
As someone who used to do my business finance calculations on the back of a fag packet, I bow to the experts on here.

But when I did my calculations I knew the figures I was dealing with.

Where do you get £8m from? A random post by a journo? How is it structured? Do we have a sell-on percentage?

Paul Taylor is reporting it as £8m plus add ons. As he broke the story, I imagine he’s close to correct as we’re gonna get
 
Selling Appiah buys us another season without an FFP ban. Judging by accounts trajectory we were going to see Jan 2021 as our final window without a ban. If we don't spend the money received that's likely to see us safe to Jan 2022.

In other words, it gives Lamouchi this season and next to operate on a one out, one in policy and two seasons to get us up rather than one. If it isn't working out we can replace and go nuts on the signing front one last time for his replacement.
 
I would hazard a guess it's £8m upfront with limited add-ons.

This would fit more into the Marinakis model of selling assets, and the £8m figure is, based on my fag packet maths, roughly what we needed to avoid FFP sanctions by the end of this season.

It goes to show how mental transfer fees are now though. Six, largely uninspiring, appearances for a mid-table second division side and you go for £8m.

And people want us to build a promotion-winning side within 2-3 years without breaking the bank.

Agreed, I don’t think he’s going to make the difference in us going up or not but I also can’t see us splashing the cash in Jan. It just looks like balancing the ffp books if you ask me. It’s easy to forget how much we’ve spent over the last couple of seasons given our turnover..

Whilst a good point, Lolley cost 500k, Adomah free, and Daws' free etc. You've got bargains knocking around like McGinn for 2.5m too.

Disappointed but as a championship club you have to somehow fund yourself in this financial black hole of a league.

It was actually Tails' Guardian journo namesake, Danny, who confirmed the £8m-plus-add-ons deal. He was a guest in the directors' box on Saturday, which suggests to me that his source in terms of actual figures is probably valid.
 
Good business really. Shame as he could have been something... Still hope for his sake he is.

Sensible decision by the club, hopefully some will be reinvested

Shame we didn’t get to see how his career might have panned our with us.

£8m for an 18 year old who’s hardly played any games is crazy though. I think considering what has happened with Oliver Burke’s career following a move abroad and knowing the transfer fee helps balance the books, we were more inclined to accept.
 

The Spanish team has been taken over by a couple of rich Saudi Fawazzes who are throwing money about at any names linked in the press with moves to Man United or other Sky Sports Super Six Teams no matter how BS the rumours are. They're owners that care about flashing the cash and making statements rather than putting the right people in place and giving them time - like SOD. It'll probably all end in tears for them but I've got the feeling the United rumours probably came from our end to see if any naive owners would take the bait and offer a decent bit of cash.

The statement Almeria made when they announced the deal sums them up. Patting themselves on the back because they beat United to a player? Who cares ffs. Three months time from now when they're midtable they'll have old Purple Nose on the phone telling them that McLeish is available and eager to join their project.
