I struggle to see where a £25m notably light weight central midfielder fits in here, there's much cheaper options if our target is just 'young with potential to develop'

If as @donny suggests this is driven by EM to 'one up' MON, can he not pay someone to go and take a dump on his doorstep instead of punting £25m to prove a point?
I was responding to your suggestion that there's no sense to our strategy and that we're going in 3 different directions.

The links to Engels, Ayari and Hackney points to a very clear strategy.

Wow if it's 25m + 5m add ons. (Oh ok it's 20m + 5m add ons) for a player who looks quite lightweight, and so it be like a Belgian McAtee. Seem ok for centre midfield players anyway, and if want to get him in - I'd rather was a lot more add on based structured!

Though if can take a decent set piece - then maybe, & seen takes good penalties: so if on pitch when Forest get peno (or sub him on if on bench) then guess pay a bit more just for that, and to get MGW off peno's....

The sad part is we’re on our 3rd bid for the worst of the 3…

We need players who can make an impact right now, not speculative investments in the future. I'd be worried that this lad seems firmly in the second category.

We've gone from scouting an experienced Italian CM to pivoting towards an over priced 22 year old CM with a clear weakness to his game even in the SPL

He's 6ft for starters. Where's this 'lightweight' narrative coming from anyway? It seems like one person said it, so now everyone is. He looks tidy if you ask me.

Take from a scouting report when he joined Celtic:

Engels is also known for his calmness on the ball, rarely panicking even in high-pressure situations, which is a trait not often found in players his age.

Another important aspect of Engels’ game is his tactical awareness. In modern football, intelligence and positioning are just as crucial as technical skills, and Engels has shown that he possesses both.

His ability to read the game, intercept passes, and make crucial tackles has made him a standout player in Augsburg’s midfield.

Admittedly I've only seen a few games of him playing but I didn't see anything to suggest the lightweight tag.

With regards to Frattesi it was more likely an opportunity that presented itself. When that didn't work out we've gone back to what looks like our actual strategy.

Edit: Add Sydie Peck to the list of young midfielders

Just listened to the Scottish reporter on the Transfer show that in his opinion the player hasn’t pulled up and trees in the Scottish League. I didn’t know we were after a tree surgeon.
Seriously we must see something in him and another 6 footer.

I wouldn't mind a signing like this if it was closer to £10-15m but at £25m we're falling into short term impact territory, and I don't think he'll provide that

We're basically over paying in the hopes he comes good at this level, because there's no way we're getting that money back if he struggles to adapt which is highly likely when transitioning from SPL to a league this demanding

Could be. But what if he plays for Forest for 3 years and we sell him for 40m?
Oh, sure. Hopefully he turns out to be brilliant and we don't sell him. But Celtic only paid £11 million for him a short while back, I think about 18 months ago-ish. So for him to have over doubled his value in that time, I'd have thought they'd have done something a little bit more spectacular.

I agree that £25M is getting a bit too ouchy

No doubt that MGW & Ando will still be on set piece duty even if we do land him. Just like when Luiz was here.

We're buying his future value more than anything.
