I think we can safely say this one is not happening tbh.

With Xaver signed and potentially Bergvall on the way, there's not really any room in the squad for another CM. Todays article from John Percy says that we'll be looking to slim down the squad from last season, so I'd be more inclined to think that aside from Bergvall we'll be looking at midfielders heading out rather than coming in.
 
Arne Engels is quickly becoming the 2026 version of Che Adams and Chuba Akpom. Every time this thread resurfaces, I get a sinking feeling when I click on it.

Admittedly, this is the "transfer rumour" equivalent of replying all to an email chain, and I'm now part of the problem.
