When we played Palace at home last season one thing that stood out for me was that they played a front three that were all interchangable, it wasn't just 1 down the middle, 1 left and 1 right, they all rotated during play. If that's something Glasner would want us to play here then that is the sort of role where perhaps Kalimuendo could succeed as he's certainly not an out and out down the middle on their own forward.
 
Glasner has used Weghorst (6ft 6) Kolo Muani (6 ft 2) Mateta (6ft 4) and Strand Larsen (6ft 4), would be surprised if he doesn't plan on continuing that trend with an equally big/physical #9

If Kalimuendo has a role in our squad it would most likely require playing behind a CF, and he might just prefer to go and play a more natural role elsewhere

This is an excellent point and I was thinking something similar. I'd be surprised if Kali is in his long-term plans to be honest.
 
I’m glad Glasner likes a big man up top, if only he was registered on this forum last season when I was arguing with 18 people at once when saying a 5’7 striker doesn’t work in the PL.

I sound like a woman on a dating app because if your not 6’2 and up I don’t want you leading the line for Nottingham Forest.

Well it certainly didn't suit Dyche which is why we loaned him out and got Lucca in, not saying that incoming was a good one but it might have been the best option we had. Also loaning him gets him some chance to play and show the club or another club what he is capable of.

I think for a small striker to succeed (especially as a lone striker) in the PL they need to have certain attributes such as pace and skill and be exceptional with it. Kroupi gets mentioned a lot when these conversations are happening but he's very quick and also a good finisher, you need to be able to get into a position where you have the advantage off a CB and then be able to snap at the ball to get it in, whilst fighting a size disadvantage.

There's a reason why Erling Haaland is unplayable and it's because he is not only an elite finisher with both feet and his head but he's also 6'4 and built like a brick shithouse and fast at the same time. Take some of those attributes away a bit and you have most strikers in the world but as this happens then it gives defenders more time. For example Murillo might lack height but he has pace so he could keep up with Haaland and not cope well physically, for example, whereas Niko might be able to handle the physical side for example at a corner but less so in a foot race with open play.

What advantage does Kali have over most PL defenders? Maybe his finishing but he still needs to be in the place where he can finish. Scoring against County and Blackburn isn't the same.
 
If the posters on this thread, and those about Sangare are right, they are making Glasner sound like a miopic combination of Ange Ball and Dyche Ball.
Look at Palace under Glasner: room for wharton, who is not a beefcake hard man; room for Elize and Eze, neither of which are great big players but both of which flourished in creative behind the main striker positions. Mateta is similar in stature and physique to Taiwo, and smaller than Wood.
I think Glasner is not short-sighted, and will adapt to what talent we have, and shape the acquisitions to meet what he thinks is best suited to us.
He won't be throwing the baby out with the bath water...

Anyone who thinks that Kalimuendo was bought to lead the line for Forest needs their head looking at.

The question has to be, can he fit in alongside that "target man"?

Possibly - however...if we work off the assumption that Glasner goes with his apparently favoured system of two 'attackers' supporting a 'Number 9' - you're potentially looking at MGW, CHO, McAtee, N'doye, Bakwa, Hutchinson, Kali and possibly Igor Jesus fighting a battle royale for two places - not sustainable, with modern squad restrictions, as it would leave us thin in other positions - so some are going to have to be moved on, (or potentially moved to fight for another position, which might be why we've seen McAtee deployed as a deeper midfielder whilst we wait for the World cuppers to return).
If Kali himself has pushed for the exit or made it clear he doesn't want to stay and fight for a place, he might just have made himself very expendable.

Not doing his chances of remaining here any harm at all with these pre-season performances. It'll be interesting to see how he does against better opposition in the coming weeks.
