Well you could look at it like that; or you could say that Billy is at least reactive enough as a Manager to try and change something that clearly wasn't working?

We sounded wholly second-best tonight, the least he could do was try and shuffle what players we did have on the pitch?

Although I did have respect for CC as a Manager, I can't help thinking he'd have left it as it was for 85 minutes then pushed Wes up front - kudos to Billy for at least trying something.

As is mine, unlike many fans of forest.

Yes it was a bad result, but for crying out loud its pathetic the way people act like the world is ending after a defeat.

Listening to the game and all those formation changes, takes me back to those dark, dark days...

The formation changed at half time.

Unless you include lumping Wes up front for the final two minutes that the only time it changed.

There were no lumbering italians. This was not David Platt. The world is not about to end...sheesh....

Didn't he only change the formation because of injuries?

What should he have done differently?

I know nothing about the game last night as I was playing.

Were we crap or unlucky? How many of the goals were Smith's fault?

We were poor and deserved to lose. Injuries contributed, as did a poor pitch and inconsistent refereeing. That said, we should have done better and got what we deserved.

4-5-1, 4-4-2, 3-5-2, Tyson on the left, Tyson up front etc etc,

The world may not be about to end, but it will seem like it if we go down!

I didn't listen to his aftermatch excusefest, but at least there is some substance to them this time.

People were heavily critical of Calderwood failing to change tactics that weren't working. I'm not sure we can be critical of Davies for changing them.

I've been critical of Davies, and I stadn by that. I think his outbursts were uncalled for and unprofessional. However, a manager seeing a tactic not working and changing it is what I want to see at the City Ground.

We fielded a very attacking side in the second half, taking off a defender and replacing him with a striker is something Calderwood would never have done.

It was a risky move, but it needed to be.

Davies' tactics are sound enough for me. If he can see something immediately being inherently flawed, he'll shift things about. It's not always going to work with the current squad, or any squad for that matter.

He's got ideas though, and one thing we've seen absolutely f*** all of from Forest managers in the last few seasons is ideas. Mostly they just pretend Chambers is a right back, or Alan Rogers is a footballer, or Perch is Patrick Vieira.

We know that Hart, Megson and Kinnear can maintain themselves at the highest level. I think when they were here they each expected to be able to come in and impose their football ideals on the club. Hart the youth-developing 'family man'. Kinnear the long-balling Mike Basset type who inspires the lads to survival with his nonchalant paunch and Megson, the ginger one. Calderwood the same really, idealistic with his small squad. Davies on the contrary seems to be playing to the strengths and addressing the weaknesses as they exist. He's moulding himself to the club, rather than expecting it to become the next Forest Youth Team, Wimbledon or West Brom. Or Northampton. Certainly, he is bright enough Davies to know we won't accept him trying to make us the next f***ing Derby.

Davies' ideal in football is to live game to game when on your arse and work it however you can, never let panic see you sign poison and develop the potential while bolstering the ranks appropriately. Get the basics, get some nous and let the talent come on at its own pace. Then play to whatever strengths you have. This season the like of Derby have managed to bully us into long ball. I don't expect it to continue.

Quite.

Calderwood preferred to wait until the 79th minute and then replace the player most likely to score with a right back.

Cant understand why he split Osborne and Moussi up they worked well in the middle. Davies tinkers a bit too much for my liking.

Ultimately injuruies will decide our fate this season. I f we can keep key players such as Cohen and Earnshaw fit then we have a chance. If we field weakened teams then clearly we are going to struggle - our squad just dosen't have the depth.

It did seem strange to me that having stated the nature of this game BD elected to play Mcgugan instead of Osbourne. Mcgugan, even when he is playing well is not a player you associate with battling qualities.

I listened to BD's comments after the match regarding the pitch, the nature of this game and how our players don't know how to play a game such as this. Surely Billy by your own admission these players cannot play in the way you suggested then you have to play to the strengths of the players you have, not the players you wish you had. Playing a direct long ball game without a target man seems self defeating, you cannot expect any of our current strikers to thrive in such a system.

Tysons pace and willingness to chase lost causes is a powerful tool for us, but when used as your only method of attack via the ball over the top it is predictable and easily defended.

We have only ever looked good this season when trying to play a passing game utilising width and pace, invariably when playing long we lose - we just don't have the players for that system.

Based on what?

A handful of games for Kinnear and Hart, and neither have covered themselves in glory, and it is not beyond the realms of possibility, that their three clubs could fill the relegation places come the end of the season.
