Whats going on down at the city ground?

I have to admit that although being firmly in the "Give it time " camp up until now I am starting to get a little concerned now. This is starting to look far too much like appease the fans and blame the market when we don't get anyone in - I know people who have conspiracy theories aplenty about our lack of ambition and I hate to say it ...but, they are starting to look plausible?

the way things are going we will be doing a Newcastle style toys out the pram protest outside the main sand come the next home game.

It certainly doesn't seem like it at the moment, but I hope to God I'm wrong.

With the prospect of losing our right-back on a disciplinary charge, our paper-thin squad is getting thinner!

The fans more than anything every season - they should be so grateful to have us after the last decade, I believe that Billy wants it much more than the board are pushing too. glad we have a manager who is not a yes man!

I can see Billy leaving if we don't get a few players in and this would leave us up s**t creek...

Did you go to Burnley? It was hardly woeful. Against Leeds we were sublime for 20 odd minutes then admittedly pretty woeful. I didn't see us at Bradford, but well, the result is unacceptable - but hardly unprecidented at that stage of the league cup and with a significantly weakened team thanks to international call-ups.

D'you think you mind be over-reacting just a touch?
 
i think billy is, but....he wants to do it with this squad...he wants the team to be ready for it and not for them to struggle then have to replace half the squad...if you listen to him, he always talks about this young group of players
 
Can we shut the forest related sections down for a couple of days? There is nothing constructive being said but knee jerk reactions. It's really tedious.

It really couldn't give two ****s if we sign these two tossers after all. They have been built up far too much and the expectations for them are far too high, its doomed.

Is it just about this pair of "tossers" though? The club has stated (Chairman, Chief Exec, Pleat, Manager - In fact anyone who is associated with the club and faces the press) that we require new players to press for a top 2 finish. The only disagreement seems to be on how many players we need. Last year showed how close we were and with hindsight I think it is pretty obvious (to most) that if we had signed a new face or two in January we would more than likely be a Premiership side now.

The (recent) history of the club is that we have had the opportunity to invest in the squad on a few occasions and have failed to do so:

Joe Kinnear promised us sexy signings on a more or less week to week basis - but they failed to turn up - you might say "thank god we didn't invest then" but don"t forget Joe Kin had been lauded as the second coming the previous year after saving us from the drop.

Hart had a great young team full of potential that were so close and needed just a few additions for the next years push - but we had to sell the cream of the squad - you can argue the case that a stitch in time (or a couple of million) could have saved us from the decline, perhaps we could have made it back to the big time - perhaps we did the right thing by cutting the cloth to fit the purse - again its hindsight.

More controversially you could even argue that once we started by giving Platt cash to spend (and I am not sure he spent as much as many make out) there was a case for backing him further in 2001 when (it could be argued that we were making some progress).

the one thing in common in all of the cases and during the calderwood, megson, and other bit-part management tenures - they were all appointed by the same Chairman - the same Chairman failed (often rightly in my opinion) to back them from his own pocket - and now the same Chairman has the decision of how far to back the best manager we have had since ... Hart?...Clark?...C&T?

If the whole Marthagate incident does turn out to be just another smokescreen of spin so that the Chairman can keep his cash in his pocket and the Manager and fans can make do, where does that leave us? Why are they telling us they are serious about promotion again (although not in so many words). Why, if the premier league means financial independence, and not being there is costing the Chairman millions a year (out of his own pocket) why have we gone a full season without a new face (loanee leftback's excepted) when we all agree (even the club?) that one more push (or dip into the savings account) will get us back where we belong?

Is it just me or does anyone else wonder why anyone would refuse to stump up the over-inflated train-fare to the big smoke to pick up a multi-million lottery ticket jackpot?

call that negative... I am begging to be proved wrong.
