Probably something to do with the delay in getting a sponsor.
Maybe Umbro wouldn't allow them to even begin designing a shirt without a sponsor in place.
I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that someone at the club didn't just wake up one day and say 'I know, lets not sell any kits during the summer, lets make everyone wait until after the season starts'.
