• Dear all, LTLF's founder, Stuart Connellan died suddenly a few days ago. If you've not seen it, you may wish to look at the thread in the top section of "Down the Pub" Thank you

Anybody know why . .

. . . . the 'E' in the Forest badge is in lower case and why the bottom of the 'R' goes under the 'E' like it does ?

Or is it just the design they chose and thats it ?

badge was designed by a kid for a competition, probably didnt realise that a word should either be all in caps or all in lower case or simply didnt know how to do a big E.

Heard a rumour years ago that the slopping R may have been to represent the River Trent ...how true it is i couldnt say

edit extra------- thus a capital E wouldnt then flow in with the slopping R ?????

Does this mean that when we move, it'll be a red tree above a Morrison's?

No, it was for trademarking purposes as stated above, I believe.

I'll ask. My friend knows the designer.

I'd be surpriseed if it was for IP reasons winnits, the protection you're talking about would be grated to the image even if was set in Times Roman.

No, it's not the copyright of the image.

But the word FOReST written in that way as a trademark/brand/call it what you will.

Might not be true, good theory though!

There was a competition and the winning entry was actually designed by an Architect who lived on Newton's Lane, Cossall at the time.

I do believe that the reasoning behind the change was that Forest had no control over the use of the old badge as it was the City of Nottingham's badge. The present badge is copyright protected and should only be used with permission.

Who cares? It's one of the best and most instantly recognised crests in English - probably World - football. Another one that comes close to being as good as Forest's is ShefWed's Owl design. I hate to say it, but D*rby's is pretty good, too. Credit, where credit is due!
Most club badges are p**s-poor, especially the ones that have been re-designed in recent years.
The only crap one that springs to my fuzzy sunday morning brain at the moment is Bolton's. What a s**te badge that is.

Give the gentleman a Coconut, spot on, which is the reason we moved from the traditional type City of Nottm badge, years before it used to be Robin Hood.

it was done on purpose to make it unique and of course a trade mark

I have a book about Nottingham traditions and legends. I will try and get one of my tribe to get a copy on the boards. Please be patient though
